A universal monitor for work and casual gaming

2023.03.27 18:12 Acrobatic-Ad-6718 A universal monitor for work and casual gaming

I never thought it could be such a PITA to pick the right monitor in 2023, where part of the issue is the modern quality control and my eyes, which seem to dislike certain types of displays namely IPS.
The story so far. A year ago I finally decided to get a new monitor and go IPS this time. I wasn't looking for anything too modern because I was a little short on budget plus I like older non-frameless designs better, so I got this HP Z23i, which wasn't supposed to be too bad. Yes, it's definitely not a gaming monitor but otherwise a good choice for work despite the horrible PWM and lack of flicker-free feature.
Eventually I noticed 2 things:
The first part, it would seem that there was too much red, green but less blue. Blue didn't feel exactly blue but grayish blue maybe. I can't describe it, it just looked weird and undersaturated. And yes, I tried to use the monitor's native controls, windows calibration tool and Nvidia controls but it still felt out of whack and warmish. I would remove green and red levels considerably but they would still dominate the picture somehow. The only other time I saw something like that was on this much older 4:3 Philips monitor.
Now, the second part is definitely worse. It's not the eyes themselves but the ocular muscles that would start to ache, I couldn't relax my eyes for a second, there was a constant tension caused by hell knows what. I thought it could be related to PWM, but honestly, I no longer believe it's necessarily the case. I've gone through several forums and it appears that there are quite a few people out there whose eyes are intolerant to IPS displays, whether flicker-free or not, which is why some of them eventually give up and go back to TN. All of them describe their symptoms in a more or less the same way.
I'm afraid my case is no different. And while I've only tried one IPS monitor so far albeit severely outdated AND lacking flicker-free feature, I'm still somewhat disappointed in IPS technology and can't trust it anymore. Now, don't get me wrong, I'm not against trying something else and newer but the problem is the cost. I can't afford to buy different monitors just to face the same exact issue again (or new ones) and then get stuck with them. It was a major PITA for me to sell this HP and I lost half the money I paid for it anyway (the shipping cost). Also, chances are, I won't find what I need in my country (I almost never do, really), which means ebay is the only way to go and I can't bother sending it back and paying for the return shipping every time or returning anything in general. It's too much hassle, plus I don't think "it hurts my eyes" would be a good enough reason for a return.
Another problem is the quality control. If I could settle for a newer IPS panel then I'm not sure I'm ok with all the "dead pixels" disaster that's been going on for the past 5 years or so. I mean you're in a double jeopardy here: 1) Your monitor can come with dead pixels, 2) Dead pixels may appear later on. Top it off with my eye-strain issue and inability to return the damn thing and you're in for a serious gamble. And no, I also no longer trust the so-called eye care features, flicker-free, low blue light, etc. Frankly, I don't think any of this should matter, I think it's probably the anti-glare coating or saturation or hell knows what else. I don't know. These are questions bound to remain unanswered for aeons to come and I don't want to look for answers, I just want a normal thing with minimized gamble factor.
I know for a fact I don't get no eye-strain from TN monitors, especially older CCFL-based ones. Like 4:3 monitors such as LG Flatron L1952S or L1953TR are great, they don't bother me and I like their picture. But I can't use them for everything. They are good for stuff like retrogaming but not any modern tasks, plus it's no longer easy to get a new thing like that even on ebay and I'm pretty snobby when it comes to used stuff. So, obviously I need at least some kind of a widescreen FHD monitor. The million dollar question is: which one? Let me just make it clear, tough. I want just a standard monitor, that is 24" FHD at best, not curved, not 4K, not three headed, fire-breathing, etc. Just a normal thing for simple mortals.
I've been looking at some of the older gaming monitors such as Asus vg248qe, ViewSonic xg2402 and LG 24gm77, all based on the same panel from AU Optronics. I know for a fact the first monitor doesn't give me no eye-strain, I know someone who's been using it for years and it seems pretty lasting and well designed in general. So I thought maybe I should get either that or something very similar. Why a gaming monitor? Beats me, folks. Probably because they offer a little extra quality on top of it and can be easily used for other tasks. I'm just a casual gamer, most of the time I'm browsing, chatting and coding but I wouldn't mind a good gaming monitor in a decent price range, that is up to $300 or slightly above.
LG 24gm77 seems like the best pick for me, I've read enough about it. Good colors, good contrast, good viewing angles for a TN panel. Except it's nowhere to be found. I've looked high and low for it and nothing. Same goes for its more recent brother 24gm79, which is almost the same except it lacks VGA port and has a handful of new features, which are probably of no use to me really. Maybe I just have to wait till it pops up on ebay, but frankly I'd rather get something sooner than later.
Anyhow, suggestions are welcome, but please, no IPS. Like I said, I just don't trust them enough for both quality and potential eye-strain issues. That is, if you don't want to send me one for free ;)
P. S. Sorry for the long post, but I had to get it off my chest.

2023.03.27 17:55 bbw_destroyer666 Just curious about peoples opinions on stick drift

I am pretty responsible with things that I own. I have a pretty consistent gaming habits. When I play it usually goes like this; I get home from work, take a shower and hop on the game. (I do high rise window cleaning so I get pretty dirty sometimes) No dirty hands. No kids. I don't rage. I put them on the charging dock when I'm done. My house is an older rust belt house from the late 1800s so its naturally kind of dusty but I do keep it pretty clean.
That being said I have recently had to replace the original two dual sense controllers from when I bought my ps5 around a year ago. I personally think that is a very short life span for a 70 dollar controller. Every time I see somebody bring up stick drift on this sub the general attitude people seem to present is that people need to just be more responsible with their stuff which I agree with. But I do pretty much everything I can to take care of my stuff and 2/2 of my original controllers got drift within a pretty short amount of time. I love my ps5 but I'm not gonna prolapse my asshole dick riding Sony. Usually being critical of Sony or anti-consumerist practices gets met with resistance or skepticism on here. I guess I'm just trying to understand why? lol

2023.03.27 17:54 justninjaa The internet still has hope! Especially Discord

So about January of this year I went into a popular chat Discord server and kind of begged for $10 in #general so I can get my girlfriend something for valentines (cause I was broke). Wasn't expecting money, but it was worth a shot
Then this one guy with the cat PFP started replying to me, he said "whats your cashapp" and I stated it (justninjaa) and he said "alr give me a minute" and I waited about 5.. and didn't get no notification or cash. Then I started going off on the cat PFP saying how he's a liar and didn't stick up to his word..
Next thing you know.. 10 bucks. I'll even show proof > https://imgur.com/a/KQ3Epqi
I was freaking out. Didn't know what to do. That's like one in a million. ESPECIALLY on Discord? Mind you, I just joined the server and started asking. Was never active. Was never known. This random cat PFP sent me 10 dollars. And I am still grateful. 2 months later.
Anyways, this has made me believe that we still have hope on the internet. Parents always told us to never trust strangers, but, I was never asked to click a link, it was just a transaction simply of kindness out of some cat PFP's heart.

2023.03.27 17:48 arkdendrobium how much Estimate copies per week sales for the 1st 10 weeks (reference from ORICON+SHOSEKI)

https://twitter.com/al_mavivi/status/1614990993794768896
this link provide that shows estimate how many copies that are sold based from ORICON AND SHOSEKI for the first 10 weeks of its publication per volume.
1/ 9 110 /11 days in top
2/ 8 638 /9
3/ 10 729 /13
4/ 8 398 /9
5/ 7 830 /7
6/ 9 710 /11
7/ 9 865 /11
8/ 11 207 /16
9/ 11 988 /14 — anime
if you're quite confused the numbers says as follows
volume # / sales # per week / ranking
to get the accurate estimate of that 800k
the sales # per week X 10 (because they only count the first 10 weeks only)
so this 800k estimate does not adds the re-prints and this is FOR JAPAN ONLY COPIES CIRCULATION and NOT INCLUDING KOREAN and THAILAND translated CIRCULATION Copies.

in general these numbers are quite average and not on the danger levels copies per week (if lower than that like 5k copies per week that is the danger level that can AXE the manga) but it's kinda sad to compare for some manga titles that garners 20k-30k copies minimum per week

for additional FAQS: ORICON and SHOSEKI is one of the major companies who provide statistics fror music sales to manga sales and to the latter.

2023.03.27 17:48 PinkRoses85 My journey with bruxism

Hey peeps. I wanted to share my story for no better reason other than sharing it.
When I was 22 I slept over at a friend's house and she said she couldn't sleep all night cause I was chewing on some hard candy. That's the first time I learned I grind my teeth, but I probably did it since childhood.
I'm 38 and getting Invisalign today in a hail mary attempt to reduce the bruxism. Here's what I tried so far, all with no avail;

  1. Night guards. All different kids. Hard, flexible, everything under the sun. I chew through the acrylic night guards like a dog chews on a bone. My dental insurance covers a night guard once every 3 years, I chew through them so fast I need a new one every year.
  2. NTI. This is a little attachment they add to the front of your night guard to shift the bite from the back teeth to the front teeth. It caused me to crack my two front - bottom teeth.
  3. CBD. tried Charlotte's Web highest concentrate.
  4. Botox. Shelled out thousands of dollars on botox, got as much as 45 units in each masseter, more on the temporalis. Didn't move the needle. Tried a total of 3 times.
  5. L-Tyrosine, Magnesium
  6. Laser therapy. At my dentist, where they shine a laser in your mouth and outside on your cheeks on your masseter. It feels really nice for about an hour.
  7. TMJ/TMD massage. The most painful form of paid torture available. This is actually the only thing that helps. The therpaist outs on like a finger condom and massages from inside my mouth. Horrible torture, but it works, gives me relief for about 2 nights.
  8. Muscle Relaxers - I tried Cyclobenzaprine. feels really nice for the first night or two, then my body builds up a tollerance.
  9. Zoloft. In my never ending quest to fix the grinding I tried Sertraline. I like it to calm my general anxiety but doesn't move the needle on the bruxing.
    1. A guy I went to high school with and is now a psychotherapist told me to try Buspirone but I'm not going to change my meds yet. If you have experience with Buspirone please shout out.
  10. Meditation. I meditate every night before going to sleep
  11. Mewing and Kieferfreund, face yoga
And finally, today, I am getting aligners to try to fix the malocclusion and mitigate the bruxism. I don't have high hopes it will work. Wish me luck.
Cheers fellow bruxers, may we all find relief

2023.03.27 17:37 Great_Hearing_3714 Having a Dog

Happy Ramadan, I hope you and your family are being blessed these days by these amazing times, Alhamdulillah. Now onto the discussion.
I am pretty sure, if you don't already know, that owning a dog as a pet in our Culture is generally frowned upon. Because they are considered dirty and "impure" (or at lease their Saliva is) and this has been taught to so many generations and in a such a negative light no less. I love dogs, I would love to own one in a couple of years, and I will let live at my home (with some restrictions), the dog will protect me and my family, but it will also be a companion as well. Now hear me out:
Any muslim that's the odd one that owns a dog, is suddenly cast out by more conservative Islamic practicers (no offense to them) like they should always adhere to the rule no matter whaf. It's like every single person should practice the exact same way. They always bring up the subject of the two "authentic" hadiths, "Angel's do not enter a home with a dog inside," and "Whoever owns a dog that is not for guarding, herding, shepherding, will lose two Qiraats a day," but I always felt the whole belief was more nuance and complicated than that.
So, you know, how in general, it is said a Muslim can own a dog if it stays outside, but that is kind of Illogical. If a dog is needed to protect a property, it would be more practical if the dog was inside to better protect the family. And the same applies to Modern Service dog or Guide Dog, the dog needs to be inside with the person in case of an emergency.
Furthermore, the whole thing about the angels not entering the home never really made sense to me. Because in Surat al-Kahf in the Quran, the first believers living in the cave had a dog, and it provided for their protection but was also a companion for them, and they were blessed by Allah SAW. Secondly, the hadith that mentions "angels entering the home" because it invalidates prayer, I believe it is more accurately describing do not let your dogs in the area where you pray. Since back then, multiple room homes were not a thing and the prayer area was usually at the epicenter, but even that is kind of convulted. Because, many Muslims (and I'm just speculating) do not always pray in their homes or in Masjids, some choose to do so outside in the garden (since my family does that too), and some even pray in parks. You know what else we're in Parks and in the Garden; dogs and possibly other animals as well. Furthermore, during the early days of Islam, dogs entered in and out the Masjids during prayer times, and this was not problematic at all.
In the Maliki school of thought, dogs were not considered Najis (Impure) at all, not even their saliva.
So I subscribe to this notion; and this is just my opinion, if you are practicing slam and have a dog (or want to get a dog) for Hunting, Guarding, Companionship, etc, you don't necessarily have to leave the dog outside. You can keep in the house, BUT you have to reserve a prayer room so you can change your clothes to prayer, safely do wudu, then pray in peace. The angels will at least enter that room if you still subscribe to that belief. It is not even humane to keep em outside all the time since you might live in an area of extreme heat or cold (ex. Canada, Texas); some small breeds are not well suited to living outside (ex. Pug, Maltese); and dogs are social animals, so they need to be with the family; otherwise, it just feels wrong unless you are spending a good amount of time with them daily.
Look, I am not saying your dog has to live with you inside; if the dog has adapted to living outdoors, the weather is tolerable, and there is proper shade and shelter for it, then I guess it could work. I just would prefer a dog to live with my family and it will only not be allowed in the Prayer Room, and maybe not be allowed in some furniture as well. If that's wrong, I don't why Allah (The Merciful) would ever give punishment to someone for giving proper care to an animal.
Forgive me if this was too long, but I just needed to get my thoughts out. But what do any of you fellow brothers and sisters think? Do any of you own dogs? What's your general thoughts on these beliefs?

The winds are finally blowing in nuclear’s favor and investors are taking notice.
Though Uranium prices are already up 70% in the last three years, they have been rangebound since early 2022, causing investors to scramble in search of the next catalyst.
The restart of the ConverDyn uranium conversion facility could be that catalyst.
The following write-up breaks down the restart of the only operating conversion facility in the US, the impact it could have on the uranium market and the investment opportunities we think it will create elsewhere in the uranium value chain.
Lets dig in…
For a short video summary, look here: https://youtu.be/lOt-SEyuLvY

Enter ConverDyn

ConverDyn is a partnership between General Atomics and Honeywell to provide uranium hexafluoride (UF₆), conversion to nuclear power plants in North America, Europe and Asia.
Uranium concentrate, “yellowcake” in industry jargon, needs to be converted to uranium UF6 before it can be concentrated and formed into pellets used by nuclear facilities.
From 1970 to 1992, there were two operating uranium UF6 conversion facilities in the US: Allied Signal’s Metropolis Works Facility (ConverDyn) and General Atomics’ Sequoyah Fuels Facility in Gore, Oklahoma.
Both companies faced low conversion prices and excess market supply in the late 1980’s and by 1992 the companies agreed to close the Gore, Oklahoma facility and take joint ownership of profits from the Metropolis Works Facility in Metropolis, Illinois.
Metropolis Works closed in 2017 due to weak conversion margins and has been closed every since.
All UF6 produced at Metropolis Work is marketed and sold by ConverDyn.

Russia Reminding the World about Security of Supply

In 2020, almost 40% of the world’s uranium conversion capacity came from Russia. American producers have said that a major concern is that the US heavily relies on foreign sources from potential hostile nations like China and Russia.
World Uranium Conversion Capacity (Source: Radio Free Europe /World Nuclear Association)
In light of sanctions against Russia due to the invasion of the Ukraine, many in the industry believe that Russia will lose its leadership as a major supplier of UF6 and U3O8 to Europe and North America.
ConverDyn’s recent success in signing long term conversion contracts from fuel buyers supports the industry’s belief that domestic demand will start to replace at-risk Russian imports.

The US Gov’t Is Breathing New Life into ConverDyn

The ConverDyn uranium processing plant has received a $14 million award for conversion services from the US Department of Energy (DOE), under its $75 million program to create a uranium reserve to shore up energy security as the Russia-Ukraine war escalates.
The government also committed to buy up to 1 million tons of UF6 from the facility over 5 years, a significant economic incentive for the facility to restart even if uranium prices weren’t sitting at multi-year highs.
This government contract alone will equal 3% of annual US uranium demand, which is why the industry is watching the ConverDyn restart so closely.
Government buying of uranium concentrate (U3O8) will equal another ~3% of demand in 2023 and is responsible for at least five idle mines planning to restart production over the next few years.
In a 2020 letter ConverDyn submitted to the Office of Nuclear Energy it mentioned a restart timeline of 24-30 months from a restart decision. The decision to restart the plant was made in January 2021 which means Metropolis Works could start back up as soon as July 2023 with industry research group Energy Intelligence calling for a restart by early April.

ConverDyn is the Tension on the String of the Uranium Value Chain

The uranium market is like a string attached to blocks at multiple points of supply. Uranium bearing ore is one block, while uranium concentrate (U3O8) and UF6 gas are others.
Demand from nuclear power plants are like a hand pulling on the rope. An increase in power plant demand trickles down to more demand for UF6 then U3O8 and finally uranium ore.
The ConverDyn restart will increase demand for U3O8 feedstock produced at uranium mills and eventually this will require more uranium ore to be mined.
Source: National Energy Education Development Project (NEED)
We believe increased conversion capacity in the US will trickle down to mills potentially leading to a spike in mill profitability in the near future.

Uranium Milling is the Next Investment Opportunity

As electric utilities increasingly value the safety of domestic uranium supply we think the market is setting up for a shortage of domestic uranium.
ConverDyn can process over a third of North America’s annual uranium demand and requires significant amounts of milled, concentrated uranium to function.
This creates a unique opportunity for the two companies with permitted and constructed uranium mills.
With US uranium mills possessing a combined theoretical milling capacity of 2,750 tons or only 2.3 million pounds per year, compared to ConverDyn’s 16 million pound processing capacity, small increases in domestic conversion demand could lead to much higher milling profits to incentivize new capacity to come online.

Only three Permitted and Operational US Uranium Mills

Source: EIA
With the Sweetwater mill in the table above shut down since 1983 and still many years and millions of dollars from restarting, the only two investable milling companies are Energy Fuels and Anfield Energy.

Energy Fuels (Ticker: UUUU)

Energy Fuels operates the only active mill in the US, White Mesa, though the facility was on standby for part of the last three years due to the pricing environment.
The facility has the capacity to process 2,000 tons of uranium ore per day or 3.3 million pounds at an average concentration of .23% uranium per ton. The facility only processed 162,000 pounds in 2022 with demand not being high enough to require 100% capacity utilization.
Energy Fuels recently sold its Texas properties for $120 million and will be recycling the money back into the ramp up of four uranium mines and the expansion of the company’s rare earth element business.
Energy Fuels has a market cap of $851 million and generated $12.5 million of revenue in 2022

Anfield Energy (Ticker AEC.V).

Anfield operates mainly in Utah and is currently commissioning a PEA (Preliminary Economic Assessment) to evaluate the economics of restarting its Shootaring Canyon Mill, one of only three permitted uranium mills in the US.
Shootaring Canyon can process 750 tons of uranium ore a day or 1.3 million pounds of uranium concentrate (U3O8) per year.
Anfield estimates it has 6 million tons of reserves or more than 22 years of production once the Shootaring Canyon Mill restarts, giving it plenty of resources to work with.

Anfield Estimated Uranium and Vanadium Resource

Source: Anfield Energy
Anfield is pre revenue and trades at a market cap of $40 million.

Anfield Stands Above on Valuation

Though both Anfield Energy and Energy Fuels share many operational similarities, from an investment angle they couldn’t be more different.
Anfield’s valuation is only a fraction of Energy Fuels, providing a margin of safety in our view, should US demand take longer to develop than expected.
Looking at the dollar of market cap per ton of processing capacity, Anfield trades at a 90% discount to Energy Fuels.
Source: YCharts.com, Capital10X Estimates, Company Filings
At full capacity Anfield’s Shootaring Canyon Mill would to generate $65 million a year at $50 uranium, more than the company’s entire market cap.
Ultimately, a diversified ownership in the entire milling value chain, Anfield and Energy Fuels makes the most sense, but the upside is clearly in Anfield’s favor based on potential capacity and current valuation.

What is an INDEX and how important for investors in stocks market?
When it comes to investing in foreign stocks It would be impossible to avoid getting to know foreign stock indices. We will tell you about foreign stock indices that we often hear about to get to know each other better. We will definitely mention 2 countries that are of interest to all investors. That is the United States and China.
US stock indexes There are several stock exchanges in the United States, two of which are the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) and the other is the Nasdaq. The NYSE was a pre-existing market, while the Nasdaq was created to fund smaller companies. Unable to be listed on the NYSE, which at that time was filled with various technology stocks such as Microsoft, Apple, Facebook, etc.

There are 3 stock indices that are often mentioned as follows:
👉Dow Jones: The oldest index in the US stock market. The index is calculated based on the prices of large companies with stable performance. An industry-leading and nationally recognized stock of 30 stocks traded on both the NYSE and Nasdaq, but mostly stocks from the NYSE.
👉S& P 500: Calculated from 500 major stocks from both the NYSE and Nasdaq, the S& P 500 companies' value represents 80% of the total US stock market value. And today, most investors see the S&P 500 index as the index that best represents the overall picture of the US market and economy.
👉Nasdaq: Used to be a market for small caps especially technology stocks before. But as time passes small tech stocks that day Become the world's leading stock today. Due to the rapid growth of the technology industry itself. It is important to note that the Dow Jones Index is derived from the calculation of the average stock price. High priced stocks Therefore, it has more influence on the index than usual, unlike the S& P 500 and Nasdaq indexes, which are calculated by weighting the company's market capitalization. From an investor's point of view, the S& P 500 is recognized as the best representation of the US investment market. As it covers stocks from a wide range of companies and industries.
You can also calculate stock indices of your particular interest from the available platforms and websites. You can visit how to create indexes yourself using S#.Data here.

China Stock Index
Generally, stocks of Chinese companies are divided into two main groups: A-Shares, which are Chinese companies registered and listed on the stock exchanges in China, Shanghai and Shenzhen, traded in yuan, and H-. Shares are stocks of Chinese companies registered in mainland China. but listed on the stock exchange in Hong Kong Therefore traded using the Hong Kong dollar currency.
There are 3 stock indices that are often mentioned as well:
👉CSI 300: Contains 300 A-Shares from both the Shanghai and Shenzhen markets.
👉Hang Seng China Enterprises Index (HSCEI): Is an index reflecting the overall performance of Chinese corporate stocks traded in the Hong Kong market (H-Shares).
👉MSCI China 10/40 Index: Is an index produced by Morgan Stanley. The index comprises all medium and large Chinese stocks combined. under the principle of investment diversification according to the 10/40 formula.
Reasons why we should get to know foreign stock indices
Because foreign stock markets are another important factor that affects the all stock market, for example, when there is a change of government. Or the president of a powerful country will affect foreign policy. Following foreign stock indices will allow us to see the direction of investment. And make it possible to plan their own investments in the future effectively.

Why should investors know foreign stock indices?
  • In deciding to invest in stocks In addition to analyzing the stocks we want to invest in What investors should consider adding is looking at the overall composition at that time whether there is a favorable atmosphere or affecting investment opportunities or not. This may be a component of macro factors such as the direction of stock markets in foreign countries. Movement of funds from foreign countries (Fund Flow) Domestic liquidity economic conditions Investment Confidence Index Consumer Confidence Index And the psychological component of investing that at that time investors are confident in investing. Therefore, in this article, I will introduce foreign stock markets that investors should get to know. To provide information for making investment decisions, including
  • US stock market major stock price indices The Dow Jones Index is an index based on blue chip stocks. It is the stock of large companies with stable performance. Known to the whole country, 30 numbers traded on the New York Stock Exchange and Nasdaq in the United States. All 30 companies are well known. It is a leader in its industry and is very large. Dow Jones Index It is one of the oldest indices in the United States and is considered a general indicator of the market and economy because all 30 companies are the largest and most influential companies in the American economy.
  • British stock market major stock price indices The Financial Times Index, which is the world's third-largest market by market capitalization, behind only the New York Stock Exchange and the US Nasdaq. Japanese stock market The major stock price index, the Nikkei Index, is the world's fourth-largest market capitalization and Asia's oldest index. It can be used as a reflection of Japan's economy.
  • Hong Kong Stock Exchange major stock price indices Hang Seng Index (Hang Seng) The Hang Seng Index is regarded as being particularly close to Thai investors. As a major trading center in Asia There is also a trading period before Thailand for about an hour and a half. In addition, the Hong Kong Stock Exchange is a channel for raising foreign capital to invest in China. The company's shares in China will be listed on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange in the form of H-shares, licensed by the China Securities Regulatory Commission.
  • Singapore Stock Exchange major stock price indices Straits Times Index Singapore is considered an international business and financial center. Especially the Singapore stock market with a stable financial position. And there is a lot of money from foreigners to invest. And there are a variety of investment products for customers to choose from.
  • The reason why we need to get to know foreign stock indices as mentioned above Because these international stock market indices are important to other stock market indices. Because foreign stock market indices are indicators of changes in various factors. Occurring abroad and impacts all over the world, including other countries such as a change of government or the president of a powerful country will affect the policies of the country. Revolutions and coups affect stability, economic conditions, and various policies of the country.
  • The economic conditions of foreign countries affect the global economy. Including exchange rate figures, interest rate inflation, unemployment rate and productivity because many countries have trade with other countries. If our trading country has economic problems It will undoubtedly affect our country. Problems related to financial institutions, such as the European group, need money to enhance liquidity and solve debt.
  • The trade war between the United States and its trading partners especially China If unable to negotiate a conclusion will result in economic stagnation and slowdown.
  • The movement of funds or Fund Flow by the expensive stock market will be sold for profit. To invest money in the stock market with low prices to generate maximum profit The movement of funds will be more rapid. Resulting in higher investment volatility.
  • Therefore, in the current investment analysis only analysis of domestic economic conditions may not be enough anymore. Investors need to analyze the overall picture of the global economy. Including superpower countries and countries that are trading partners of their own countries and the economic conditions of different countries. How are they? Through looking at foreign stock indices. To see how they trend to go up and down as well. Because foreign stock indices It is an indicator of economic. Conditions and investment psychology in the stock market to a certain extent. The stock market, we have a chance to be positive. (If domestic factors do not change). If the market is opened to neighboring red markets .We may have to prepare ourselves mentally that our home market may be red as well.
  • In summary, in order to be successful in investing, In addition to having knowledge of what we invest in Investors need to have time to follow the news. In a timely manner At the same time, investment strategies are reviewed to be in line with rapidly changing situations. For new investors Investing through mutual funds by professionals who manage our investments for us. Probably another option that meets the requirements, however, you need to have knowledge to choose to invest in mutual funds that meet the needs. Therefore, before every investment Don't forget to invest in knowledge. Good luck in investing.

2023.03.27 16:56 TheTemptingSoup Just finished the first trilogy (Era 1)/ Discussion

Hello, I just finished the first trilogy for the first time and wanted to give some of my toughts (or complaints) to it. And would like to here some thoughts of you too.

TLDR: I come of as pretty negative I think here but it is more so because I very much enjoyed the story, that's why I feel it low points do hurt it. I liked Vin growing confident in the first book, her embrace with Elend at the end felt so special, more than anything else in all 3 books. I loved Breeze, of all the crew he actualy did follow Kelsiers advice to always smile in his own way. I enjoyed Spooks journey in Utreau, having to come to terms that he is his own person and his ideal from who he wants to be. Sazed conflict with himself and with his place in the world. TenSoon having to learn to trust like Vin. It just needed to be that bit better in a few extra places.
First of I would say I'd rate the enjoyment as 1st The Final Empire, 2nd The Hero of Ages and 3rd The Well of Ascension. People say book 2 is good because it focuses on character development but I just don't see it (more on that later). I would've said book 3 is as good as 1 but it suffers from "First couple of chapters something happens and the plot moves forward, then we get stuck in two places for 80% of the book until the arbitrary time has been filled for it to continue. Book 2 sufferes from this too only you are stuck in one place running in circles which makes it so much worse. If something took time in book one there was a time skip to see the changes and we actually saw a progression throughout the entire book.

Characters acting a certain way Or the worst Moment in book 2
Sometimes characters won't act like they should just because the plot has to be a certain way. Vin had an idea where her place in society was in the end of book 1. The worst case I can think of is in book 2 When Elend talks with Jastes the first time. In this book he still is an absolute idealist, to the very core. It gets even shown later when he would have won the assembly vote if he hadn't corrected two of the votes (which was wrong by the way, just because their candidate didn't win didn't mean that their vote was worthless something super duper smart king Mr. Misery should know, but that is besides the point, in general the whole rule about being allowed to change your vote based on others votes completly goes against any form unbiased choice, but hey it needed to be there to show Elend is a good boy). So what are Elends ideals? He believes in the good of the people, trusting most will make the right choice, are understandable, reasonable and everyone has their own viewpoint on things which combined with other viewpoints and compromise gives the best possible reason to action.
Yes he talked to his dad and shared a meal, the guy who came to Luthadel to enslave everything back into how it was and kill Elend. He talked politely to him first. What did he do with Cett, the guy that wanted to undermine his entire rule through the vote (and conquer and enslave everything back into how it was if it didn't work). He talked politely to him first.
Then he goes to Jastes Lekal. You know the guy he knew most of his life and felt he had similar ideals back then? The guy that from the initial offer seemed to keep Luthadel to fall to Tyranny? Yes he had the brilliant diplomatic thought of immediatly getting aggressive to him and stabbing him in the freaking shoulder for bringing a koloss army. Losing most of his family from failing his kingdom? Feeling he is deperate and has nowhere to go? Irrelivant Jastes is just a big baby and super evil. Not unlike the other two fine gentlemen that were besieging him, no they just brought a regular army that is very reasonable. I'm glad that talk was so effective since we saw how Jastes army retreated afterwards. Also showed really well his current strategy of trying to align to every army to play everyone out. This could have been handled in so many different number of ways with the same outcome but not in a way Elend was cosplaying as Zane. If Jastes was supposed to be a reflection on how Elend would act/turn out if he failed as a king he hasn't wasted a single thought about it, THAT could have been his moment of character development.

How the ending of book 2 is dumb
I really don't like that the siege conflict for book 2 was Vin having to decide between Elend and stabbing everyone won't solve everything with Zane that stabbing everyone would solve everything. Then she rejects Zane and trusts Elend proceeding to stabbing everyone to solve everything and Elend going "lol that was okay I was wrong" which really begs to question what the entire point off everything everyone did in the book mattered at all. All Vin would have had to do is go into a rampage mode and fight all 3 armies at the same time, then she would have "accidentialy" discover she can brain wash the koloss and problem solved.
I don't get why Cett's army moved off only for plot to happen. Like yeah, he lost the vote but that wasn't his plan to get Luthadel anyway in the beginning. He still had his army and Vin didn't kill him and he still was a gambling man. He might be scared that she would kill him eventually and he was powerless to fight back? But he would have had to deal with that throughout his entire life.
Straff getting himself posioned was a very nice twist. You know it would have been a form of poetic justice that he felt he was superior to everyone only to die of his own hubris. But no he survived that (just finding the right ingredients somehow, I to can make meth just by throwing things together despite not knowing how to do it), standing outside his tent for an hour twirling his moustache evily until Vin turns him into Str aff. His army didn't matter that much in the end and I felt it would have been much more fitting.

Random things:
When Vin was captured by Yomen, it sure was convenient for Marsh to barge into the room with a bag filled with vials Vin could steal from to regain her power, even more convenient he had duralumin in there, boy was she lucky for that...
Vin could fight Zane without atium but Yomen, a regular priest with no special training was too much for her poor instincts to predict his movements compared to that of a full mistborn. In general Vin gets a lot of Deus Ex Machina moments that just help her with whatever she has to do that moment. She often makes guesses at something. In book 1 those where reasonable thoughts, some turn out right, some wrong. Afterwards whatever she guesses is often the correct thing.
I really, reallyy dislike Zane and Vin in the tower when they go off killing Cett. Mainly because it ruins any semblance of scale we had thus far. Mistborn are supposedly very strong people. We are shown in book 1 this with Kelsier who has been a full Mistborn for some time and is also a very skilled one. But it is also often shown (and implied) that Mistborn aren't invincible. They can't just run into the middle of an army and stop everyone (right Vin?). And we are shown Mistborn can be countered, even with regular people. Kelsier fights 6-8 Hazekillers gets wounded and struggles with them and has to flee as soon as more allomancers arrive so he doesn't get overwhelmed and those Hazekillers mind you fight quite effectively. So naturaly Vin beats 50 of those guys with no scratch at all.
Of all the cast, I feel most sorry about Dockson. Poor poor Dockson. I feel like he was set out to be suspicous so you think he is the kandra. In hindsight I feel more like Sanderson didn't know what to do with him anymore after Kelsiers death. He was the guy to bounce back from with Kelsier more than anything. So he was just there barely mentioned only to die unspectacularly so Sanderson didn't have to keep him in the story.

Thoughts on the ending:
I find it so bizzare that the solution to getting rid of Ruins body was burning it. Elend came up with that in like an hour. The Lord Ruler who had 1000 years to ponder this question never thought about this. Like I know he was influenced by Ruin in the end but if this solution was the solution, why on earth had he been collecting up ruins body for the entirety of the millenia? You'd think he'd scatter it instead at the very least. Or you know burn it too. Before that I thought burning attium would return that strength back to Ruin THAT's why he was collecting it instead.
I don't know why but Elends death affected me the most, despite him feeling like a minor character in his own story. Whatever Elend did it didn't matter compared to whatever Vin did. He always felt a bit like a fish out of water, in book 1 too with not really getting what was happening around him. It's just sad he was dead despite always trying his best to make it right to everyone (except Jastes fuck him).
I don't get why Super Sazed, of all people came to the conclusion the Lord Ruler had honorable intentions, but failed at it/was corrupted. Rashek was flawed from the very beginning, feeling he could do a better job then Alendi, that's why Kwan sent him. He styled himself as a god, never admitted any fault and you know conquered and enslaved the majority of the world. He treated everyone beneath him, the nobility, the ska, the kandra. Like turning your former friends into goo pits so they can't challenge you isn't the epitome of virtue Sazed.
In lieu of the above thought Vin really wasn't the best concioussnes to wield Preservation like Super Sazed thinks. I get that she is the main character but come on Super Sazed you know her faults (such as being a bit of a mary sue). Preservation is stability and no change, exactly how was Vin this? If anything the Lord Ruler embodied that more.

2023.03.27 16:42 dreamskij Report - DNing in Morocco

Hi all,
I had a short DN trip in Morocco (though I changed city way more often that a typical DN would do), and thought I would report on some aspects that popped up before I departed.
I won't bury the lead, though: if you want to know whether I'd do this again, the answer is probably no (with the exception of Sundesk/Taghazout). Though probably this conclusion is injustified if you just read the points below :)
I like hostels (though I'm allegedly past hostelling age), and Morocco strikes me as a country well suited to backpacking and solo traveling. However, working from hostels here is hard. They rarely have desks or even full-height tables and chairs, and wifi speed is often inadequate. There are a few exceptions: The Mosaic Hostel in Marrakech had a pretty good wifi (but you need to stack chairs on low tables to create an acceptable "desk"), L'Hostel in Casablanca is very good in general, has tables and desks, and internet there was perfect (it is not a real hostel, though!).
Wifi can be very hit and miss. I found it to be good in coworking cafés and some hostels/coworking spaces, but in general barely adequate. Just get a sim card - you get about 1 Gb a day for 15$ if you get the prepaid plans from inwi or Orange. There are other plans (higher or lower tiers). Pay to go means you pay about 1 dollar per Gb. The 4G network is good and I had good service even in the desert - in fact, old medinas might be only areas where you could have issues (inside buildings, esp on the ground floor)
There are coworking spaces in many big cities: Rabat, Casablanca, Tangiers, Marrakech... and probably also in cities that do not see many tourists. They tend to be in the new cities, far from the medina and from touristic sites, so sometimes it's hard to reach them if you don't know well local transport. As an exception, L'blassa in Marrakech is in the new city, but its position is not bad at all (in Gueliz). I did not use them a lot - L'blassa is ok, but I actually only used it for a few hours. Pikala café has a coworking area and a very good wifi, and it is closer to the medina. I did not have a good reception at Alpha coworking in Tangiers, but tbh 3 USD for 1 day of open space is good value. Friend's café is a coworking café. There is no food now, during Ramadan, but the current 1 USD for a day pass is VERY good value.
I used Noqta in Essaouira (and had a room there) for a week, and did not like it a lot. The staff is nice and welcoming and everything, but the space is not that well managed: if two-three people take a call at the same moment the place begins to get unusable, at least for me. Also, internet here struggles when the space is at peak occupancy. But I am sure the place will get better with time - it is still very new.
OTOH, I can't but lavish praise on Sundesk (Taghazout). It is low cost/backpacker-ish, but it is run very well. The coworking space is always open and even has a few monitors for guests to use. Their activities/dinners/lunches are priced quite fairly. And they do really try to build community. I am not surprised they are booked months in advance.
Windy bay is also ok as a coworking space. As is - or so I've been told - Teapot. In general, you should not have issues if you're staying in Taghazout or Tamraght.
TBH, I thought Morocco would be worse, giving on the hate it gets. But no, guys and gals. This is a safe country. There are dodgier areas, that's for sure, but that's true for every country on earth. Fès and Tangiers are worse than the rest of the cities I visited (I actually wandered in non-touristic areas of the Medina in Fès and was followed by guys on a motorcycle, but in the end nothing happened) Yes, in the medina of Marrakech people will try to get your attention, to overcharge you, to bring you to the tanneries, to give you directions and then try to get money... just keep your guard up for the first few days. Taxi drivers will also try to overcharge you, on occasion. I usually avoid them, but the tourist surcharge was maybe 5-10 dirhams, not an amount I would lose my sleep over. It can be much much worse if you follow touts/take taxis near stations or touristic hotspots.
In general, moving between cities is really easy, especially if you don't limit yourself to the two big bus companies (CTM and Supratours). If you are travelling with one single medium (40-50L) backpack, you'll have no problems at all. You'll able to take shared taxis (grand taxis) just fine, as well as trains or buses or other informal ways of transportation. If you have more luggage (I do, as I will be moving to colder countries for a couple of weeks), you'll find your backpack will be tied on the roof... not a deal breaker, just remember to take all important things with you
Sadly, in order of comfort the order is train -> bus -> shared taxi, but for convenience the order reverts. Buying trains last minute means risking they will be full, forcing you to first class (even then, you might be forced on the next train instead) Also, train tickets should be bought online, or at the desks with human tellers. None of my cards (I tried 4) worked with the automatic ticket machines, and I saw other guys with the same issue
However, city buses are not always easy to use. The stops are often unmarked and you need to ask or to know where they are, and the lines are not registered on G maps (with some exceptions, but they aren't in Casa, Fés, Meknes... they are in Marrakech, though)
Conclusions:
Would I stay in Morocco again/for longer time?
Probably not. My main issue is that I believe there are places with better price/quality ratio. The level of low cost accomodation, especially inside the medinas, can be really low, and at night they can be quite cold (and damp). As digital nomading here is not that common, probably nobody sees the need to accomodate that market
With some exceptions:
Taghazout is an attractive destination, especially if you are into surf or yoga or both, but I really suggest finding a place with your own kitchen, as you could get tired of local restaurants quite easily (I did). Sundesk super super recommended. Agadir is completely skippable, but maybe you'll go there to buy stuff, from time to time.
Marrakech - plenty of weekend trips (be it Agafay, Toubkal, waterfalls...), and Ouarzazate is not that far, should you want a change of scenery for an extended weekend. Also, there is a good mix of events, old city and a decent new town area.

2023.03.27 16:31 jagrusa1 Work IEMS for Music, live Performance, and Ear Protection

Hello! I'm looking for a pair of professional IEMs that work as studio/live stage preformance, good general listening experience, and great noise isolation.
I will be starting a Job that involves loud noises 24/7 (construction sites), and gig on the side as well as play in a marching band, so i'm looking for something that would work as both.
As well with that, i would like something with a "natural" sound signature, with a little more emphasis on treble clarity
My budget is around 300 Dollars, and definetly dont want the Etymotics ER Line. I personally cant stand the fit and is a major deal breaker for me
Im sorry if this just sounds like basic knowledge for professional IEMs, im new to this and am still trying to learn.
Thanks!

2023.03.27 16:18 mr-monty Baoran war

Intro
By the time of 990 atc the world was in the politest ways on the edge, technocratic and roundtable were staring each other down over lands rights while the pax democratic engaged in a spate of land wars.
Far over in nova brovoa war was the last thing on any one’s minds, Boaren a self-governing colony of the empire Meran was an arid place made for mostly long steppes, plains, and forest and hilled barren areas, with scrubs land in between.
The colony had long been Meran pantry’s and mine, with vast quantities of cattle and minerals extracted form the colony in return for protecting the mostly independent and religious inspired governments of Boaren who sought to escape Meran grasping religious conformity.
By the start of 990 things where reaching a crisis points, for a long time a mix of population pressure, riches and rather unclear borders drove settlement deep in to the heart of the continent, which bought them in to conflict with the local powers, for a and more importantly Olmar.
In the run up to 990atc a succession of governors had drawn up border agreements with tis larger landed eastern neighbour Olmar , theses held for a while as focuses was put in to setting the interiors, but as Boaren started to reach increasing poor grazing land that was often under siege from encroaching deserts. The idea for settle in to less populated border areas looked more and more attractive.
Olmar had been Boaren neighbour it long had small population with its northern eastern neighbours with its bordered defined by a series of slow running rivers, and white border posts than anything solids.
Under governor Orn the 3rd, in 950 atc a series of families where settled on the very border between the two nations, drawing no ire from the Olmar government after all they were only a few family little more, the few families where soon join by more , and more each group more armed than the next.
In 959atc when a series of Olmar tax collectors were driven off by an armed posse Olmar was naturally enraged, the tax collectors returned the next day this time with a squadron of cavalry.
Likewise, the armed Posse had returned this time with reinforcement and serval machines guns. The results whereas could be guessed and Olmar was after a series of just as fruitlessly border skirmish driven off.
Serval high level meeting between nations failed to deal with the issue with Boaren claiming that the line was in fact further west that it had agreed centuries ago, due to the changing of rivers, poor maps, cheating etc, the meeting ended up leaving with a bad taste in the mouths of everyone with a treaty signed between the two under the watchful eyes of empire of Meran who naturally sided with their colony though noted with very great reluctance as Meran saw there colony increasing coming loose from its lease.
While Olamr were able to stop further expansion in the treaty, Olmar ended up losing hundreds of miles of lands, and worse still the border was just as leaky as ever.
For the next 2 decades Boaren play book was the same, settlers would creep over the border and settled on Olmar lands, sometimes they would be driven off other times they would hold, the first settlers would soon give way to fortified farms and armed militia group, Olmar would get back ether driving off the group at which point the cycle would be started over again, or Olmar would lose, ground.
The simple vastness of the border an lands meant it was possible with North eastern border with Boaren had long been a vast line on the map with little in the way of lands marks or defensive terrain to halt this cycle of settlers and counter settling had some but little success.
At a 2nd conference to mediate the disputes between the two nations hosted by Hanu in 976 atc did some results come in slowing the Boaren settlers, along with cleaning up the dispute in favour of Olmar with the border moving to pre 1st treaty borders in favour of Olmar being pushed back but by then a great deal with Olmar North eastern marches had been settled by Boaren sponsored or backed settlers.
That said Boaren found itself hard pressed to do much to dispute this claim, Meran put it foot down and reigned in its colony, there where issues abroad with the anti Meran- Anti salve alliances and growing slave rebellions. Meran had no desire to get involved in what looked to be a growing crisis, promising it colony no support if a war came due to their colony actions.
Though Meran would find thing would soon spin out of it control, the election for governor Helmrn in 980 atc a fire breathing preacher was spanner in the works, representing a base of landless citizens made up of second, third etc sons that could not inherit their vast grazing field of their fathers, veterans of Boaren serval border wars, and families of settler that now lay ie with in Olmar newly secured [on paper at least] Border herlmn pushed hard to tear up the treaty and return what it viewed as ti rightful land which would deal with their population crisis.
He was unable to get what he wanted, international opinion was against Meran [ and it colonies ] more than ever, and a series of minor economic bumps set the price of grazing herds such as cattle , horses and drakes tumbling, meaning that more herds was no longer needed. But he would soon get his wish.
Woes
There was three thing that helped him, a war in pax democratic distracted world attention , the the second was aftermath the Meran civil war, the central government was becoming powerless as pro -slavery factions sought to try and unit its divided nation, while the 3rd was a economics distress, cause by rising [prices of grain set the world more or less on edge with government searching for a source for cheap grain.
Through out of power Helmrn was able to capitalise on his large support base now larger thanks to out of work farm and ranch hands, Helmrn was able win an emergency election by a landslide on the ideas of a expansions with the promise that with in the first 10 days of office, they would be grazing there cattle in olmer capital unfortinialy for his he would be provide wrong by a mix of olmar and hanu military
Order of battle
On the surface the Boaren military was powerful it boasted 120,000 full time member with graze guards [ paramilitary Gendarmerie] adding a futhger60,00 member it could also call up over 210,00 reservists along with a variety of militias members most of them trained to a high stranded it total , Boaren could boast an army of around 500,000 to a million give or take this is force with you adding the 4 brigades for regulars Meran troop stationed at the capital.
While there navels and air forces was lacking it was still large with the Boaren boast,ed 4 squadrons of light bombers , and recon planes with some biplanes m45s and more modern monoplane m67 fighters kept at the capital in a large squadron.
With the nation being home to Meran western fleet, seen as critical part of Meran defence against Orcsen naval incursion, Boaren boasted a numbers of frigate, destroyers, support craft, and the carriers Empress, Duke and Baron, with the old but serviceable battles ships “vertywn “, Fang” and “Nova bravieu “
The Olmar military was small by comparison with the navy equipped with some outdated cruisers modernish subs that had not been combat tested and mix for frigates and destroyers of varying age and use. The air force was better boasting a heavy mix of fighters, dive bombers Olmer with even a squadron of heavy bombers imported for the pax democratic.
The army was small drawing Olmar a smaller population Olmar could count on mere 60,000 men at arms with 90,000 reserve and they could call up on conscription, though the use of them was debatable with the length of service was only a year many would need to be placed though refresher training to places up to scratch. The final number could put them army at around 250,000 to 300,00 thousand give or take.
But number alone tell one story, as is well known amateurs talk tactics, professional talk logistics. Of course, neither nation could deploy their full might aignsit the other having and need to secure other borders etc.
While Boaren boasted a large force of all cavalries, its soldiers expert marksman who would be able to fight dismounted as crack dragoons this was outdated, left out of the loop in regards to modern warfare, the Boaren army’s lacked modern equipment.
Radio something that was platoon assets in Olmar armoured [ thanks to hanu help] was a battlion asset in Boaren , motorized was likewise limited though this could be forgiven had they forced elsewhere outside of Meran regularly formation, Boaren lacked any motorized vehicles, beyond some old armoured cars [useful for dealing with rebellion or riots] and artillery tractors, by comparison the Olmar was almost all motorized and mechanised with only some comparison formations lacking vehicles.
Coordination between combat arms was also poor not helped by lack of radios, Olmar having been Involved as Hanu rather young brother in the pax democrat small wars had a helpful learning experience for combined arms giving rise to modern officer training that emphasized, firepower, artillery and combined arms.
By comparison, Boaren forces placed almost extreme expertise of marksman and horsemanship training, with each formation and combat expected to behave almost independently stalking around here opponent.
Boaren had no history with aircraft in production design or usage, seeing them as useful for scouting roaming hordes of the undead, the aircraft pilots , training and plans where outdated with only modern planes being the monoplane interceptor at the capitals thought how much help they would be was doubtful as there was little effort to combined arms.
This was in stark contrast to Olmar air forces which was viewed by Olmar as a priority service given not only some of the lest design [in bomber, attack aircraft and fighters] the “falcon fighter” though lacking was homemade but also welled used with pilots having trained with pax democratic forces during its many small wars where they learned not only modern fighter skills but also combined arms.
The navy was in better shape but had been stuck in defence for so long they still emphasized the big gun battle theory where the battleship backed fleet would win, ignoring say submarines, aircraft carriers or raiders. The aircraft carrier through new and untested still sporting old steam catapults, seen more as recons or harassment weapons used to wear the enemy down, after aircraft had never sunk a battleship though serval ships.
Olmar navy might not have been the largest or most modern but most well led, having a more modern understanding of naval warfare, sporting a modern if fresh naval air wing made of sea planes and serval torpedo bombers some modern if untired and tested submarines and a 2 old heavy cruisers “light” and “shadow” along with some frigates and destroyers”.
To even things, Olmar had the almost unlimited backing of Hanu, backed in turn by the pax democrats Hanu was eager to return to its old role as the “tip of land” police and started at first to export weapons, then train, then full units of “volunteers” to Olmar to stop what it saw as the spread of Meran influence by proxy.
No friend of the slaving Meran, the Anti slave alliance saw a way of humiliating Meran and “gifted” serval planes and tanks to olmar.
By the 990 ATC what would be a simple border war would become mini proxy war one that promised to be eventful.
The fire
The first spark was not hard to find, within Olmar borders, plenty of Boaren settled sought to escape Olmar rule , Boaren settlers still under olmar defied the government sometimes this was as simple as driving the wrong see for the roads, other time by not paying tax.
By the start of February 990 atc a group of farmers [ the sons of grain] would launch a armed protest at what they saw as harsh Olamr laws, over farm regulations seized control of the critical border cross at White water, where they engaged in an armed standoff with Olmar border guards, and military personnel.
Supplied by Boaren and broadcast on radio, the sons of the grain could not be dislodged, after serval attempts to get them to stand down, the Olmar attacked, not notifying Boaren authorities Helmrn sized on this decrying it, stating that serval shells had caused property damages, and that citizens standing up for their right.
Helmrn demanded reparations along with serval rather humiliating demands such as the right of Boaren graze guard to be given not only extrajudicial rights with in Olmar border bur immunity form laws to police Boaren citizens, Olmar rejected them in anger at Helmrn plan.
Claiming shelf defence, Boaren declared war and the next day. The next day troops crossed Olmar boarder on 30 of February.
The start.
Boeran plan was fairly simple, without the support of Meran, Boaren could at least rely on Meran imperial troops to defend the home tuff, focusing on the attack, Boaren focused on two axis of advances on1 though the well travel southwest Plains in the north and the other following the main coastal roads in the south.
In made sense both of them followed a variety of trails along access to watefodder and ease of communication.
The armies were devoured in to two forces, one called costal, of roughly 173,000 men and the plain forces in 150,000 men, the Boaren army’s enjoying their minds serval advantages, they had better men and weapons, [least they believed] and they outnumbered them.
The Olmar army would have two choices either to concentrate on the plain forces and risk losing their most heavily populated and economic valuable areas, and maybe Boaren could advance right on to the Olamr coastal capital, or Olmar could concentrate on the coastal advance forces and risks being outflanked and or losing economics and grain lands to the plain advance.
The only issue was time, Boaren majority of the manpower came from a variety of grazing and farming industry and being summertime, the war would need to be over in a few months to bring in the harvest, though as long as Boaren forces had mounts they would succeed and be able to out move.
To make up for this Boaren high command divided the army in to 3 echelons, a first wave was made up of militia, volunteers and graze guard would advances deep in to enemy lines and recon and raid, the 2nd wave was mostly conscript and reservist s would follow and deal with main Olmar army, and the 3rd wave would be heavy and slow artillery with professionalas that would deal with any sieges or holdouts.
The aim was to be fast, secure any disputed territory and more for bargaining in future negotiations cities where to be bypassed by militas who would not last in a longslug out fight, before being sieged later by part of 2nd and 3rd waves and used as bargaining chips.
Though as was to be found out it was not without issues. The advance was fast, given the high levels of mounts the advances averaging 40-50km a day, better yet, of the two coastal cities that stood before the Olmar capital of tide city, the 1st city [ Pose ] fell quickly leaving only the 2nd city the port of Spilts end though even that was not expect to last long.
Olmar defence plan had call for disputed territory to be given up both to trade space for time and to guards there rear [ Olmar saw the disputed territories as unfriendly, give them up, to take back over later would easier]
The defences plan had called for the army to hold on to Pose of splits end and conduct a series of series of mobile staged withdrawals to the city till, Hanu forces relieved the countries, however as Hanu forces started to very slowly trickle in Olmar realised something.
The plains army and the Coastal armies both had only a thin line of militias between the two armies and with a variety of resistance by towns and villages the twos forces because more drawn out and more clumped together, with little effort or thought to guarding the flank as both armies operated independently of each other with scarce communications, merely sticking to their own orders, Olmar decide to gamble.
The plan was simple, they would use the advantage of mechanisation and equipment’s, such as airships and aircraft they would decide to spilt the army in the middle and entries and destroy each one in turn.
This was surprisingly easy there was little communication, little recon and little intelligences, little coordination little more than a rough outline of coordination.
It was decided to destory the coastal army first, begin it was larger, and could be more easily trapped against the coast.
After a great deal of effort and gathering a army of 80,000 men was created with the 1st 2nd armoured division and 3rd and 4th mechanised divisions, repeating considerable striking power backed up by serval squadron of fighter bombers and more importantly
Airships more specific supplies airships, thought much has been write about the it so to paraphrase, seeing how useful they where in combats and commerce now if they could be good for transporting cargos, why not military cargo using the air ships as mobile forward operating or supply bases.
Though not unheard of the idea of the airship operating so far forward was about to be put ot the test.
Starting in the early hours of Monday morning 15th of march, called the great spring awakening Omlar forces drove forward slicing though the thin line of forces that separated the two forces and over the courses of serval days encircled the coastal army.
While most history would include tales of large battles etc there is little the coastal army was encircled without clear communication the coastal army first heard reports of it being surrounded but dismissed them as rumour or perhaps skirmish units they had little idea of the full picture, commanding so many forces with so few radios it made sense to sense keep on the tasks at hand the siege then just wait for better reports.
The army headquarters often did reports by landline telephones [ often tapped by Olmar intelligences] they would have little idea of that they are being encircles Boaren was used to units not reporting so the idea for them missing units was dismissed, Occult communications was not a Boaren strong point, and was like wise when jammed nothing was amiss.
They realised was when the coastal army stopped receiving ammunition, and supplies. The commandeering officer lieutenant general Joon held firm at first, drawing the wagons so to speak and getting ready to endure a long hard siege to be relieved.
though one that would not be comes, hopes of navel support/breakout where dashed when the Meran navy first attempt was bombed in its home base and put off in serval submarines attacks, supplies started to run low worse with no airs support and few AA weapons, meant they were sitting duck to daily Olmar air raids it was a fortnight later before it was decided to break out while Coastal army had been able to keep in contact with high headquarters by carrier Pigeon, lack of organists, communications, supplies etc meant that the break out was the only option as the plains army attempted to break out.
The forces under the control of mostly militia had already started to frays, expecting a quick war of conquests they were starting to feel the expendables, worse supplies came from living off the land or from slow supplies trains.
The breakout was the most successful part the operations with the forces already starting to scatter, splitting in to small bands, destroying heavy equipment, it was partly success a full 50,000 managed to slip away and reform in Meran as the home army, with others deserting.
Merna had lost much irreplaceable equipment and prisoners and casualties where highs, and morals at an all-time low.
For the plain army’s things where now much mreo difficult though, they were in fact worse, word had only reached them of coastal armies destruction they had to turn around a larger more undisciplined army and face the enemy.
The results where not great, the plains armies relied more heavily on militia rather than reservists they had less equipment, and now that the coastal army had bene destroyed, they found themselves under the full attention of the full might of Olmar air forces, with little chance to strike back.
The army of plains marched onwards, the battle plan had changed to in what they hoped would be a large attack to the flanks for the Olmar army with lighting speed, back up by milita who would harass the army while it dealt a knockout blow forcing Olmar to surrender.
High command
By the 1st of April In Boaren high commands things were different the destruction of an entire army so fast, in such a short space of time had changed things, morale had slumped it was clear that to most Boaren of Olmar tanks often cut their way though under equipped forces while the losts of the coastal army had been a hit, Olmar was getting bolder and a week ago had bombed the capital with little danger.
Boaren was discovering it had badly underestimated their foe, while it had a large army much of it was a mix of militia and conscripts much of them where more used to light skirmish and raids,
There olamr opponents where well equipped and armed, Boaren had little answer to olmar army and aircrafts. There is navy superior to olmar had been reduced almost impoantace by a mix of mining and serval daring submarine and aircraft attacks forcing The navy to stay in the harbour.
Morlae had fleln what had been an advance now was a series defeats, command made the decision to try and tie down and over whelmed the Olmar main battle forece, and happily destroy the army’s, all the while navy would go to sea and conduct a series of amphibious landing on Olmar coast to distract them regardless of how much the navy protested.
naval war
This part was well somewhat easy to deal with and explain, have little experience in amphibious landing the idea was to take serval nationalised civilians ships and make a landing on one of the many suitable point along olmar coast it would be used to threaten olmar forces [ they did to have many Boaren hoped] then pricnering.
The Meran navy did as asked [ Meran now paying attention to the war hoped to keep it contained ] while they had little experience with amphibious landing in fact they had only a company of marines and no specialised landing ship, the idea being to slowly ferry troops to the shore in small rowing rowboats, was seen as acceptable the amphibious lands they hoped would bring the Olmar fleet to action where it could be engaged in decisive battles and destroyed allowing for Meran fleet free action along Olmar coast.
Meran was starting to pay attention to the war war and was feeling it was gettign out of hands the operation and idea was soon as quick fix with little attention focused.
Nothing went well the fleet was together in one long convoy centred the carriers empress, [ the other two carriers out of action due to Ariel attack even the empress was not operating at full strength, with the battleships “Vertywn “, Fang” and “nova bravieu” backed by over 12 destroyers and frigates 8 transports and 2 oils 1 ammunition vessels and 3 armed thugs.
Olmar looked to give battle the Omlar fleet of 8 frigates and the 2 heavy cruiser appeared not far on the horizon shadowing the convoy, before speeding off, seeing a opportunity to give battle and destroy their foe in a decisive battle [ after all submarines where mere harassing weapons] split the forces in to a battle wing of 10 destroyers and the carrier and battleships and gave chase.
It was ruse, the Omlar fleet led the Meran fleet on a wild chase, going far out to sea then returning in to Olmar water’s before docking in Hanus, friendly waters where Meran could not attack them [ Hanu was still “Neutral”].
The amphibious fleet was on the other hand left the tender mercies of Omar submarine and air fleet, from dusk to dawn, the convoy was attacked time and time again, though there was some hits Olmar had only minor training for the night operations, Meran was just as bad, with few AA guns and poor radio communication the fleet was sitting ducks till the empty handed Meran fleet returned having nothing to show for it having sunk 2 destroyers, the convoy lost nothing while all vessels where afloat, though all having taken damage [ though the oil and ammo tender where unharmed and with 4 transports where taken on water and listings.
In the end cress fallen all the vessel returned home, with 1 tug being lost on the way due to sea mines and the oil tanker 459 being lost due to fire caused by believe occult storm powers on April 4th. The Meran navy would spend the war in port enduring many air attacks.
The plains army
The plain army by the time it meet its foes on April 4th had not been told he amphibious assault had failed[ so as to keep morale high] and more importantly the army having correlated in to a large mass working their way forwards had no idea that they were to being surrounded by the Omlar army, whose use of electronic airborne and Hanu intelligence and supply allowed for 1st armour and 3rd mech division to form the left pincer and the 2nd armoured and 4th division to the right pincer, while the plain army had serval skirmish they were often wiped out with little way of stopping the armoured recon units.
The lack of anti-tank weapons, lack of recce and the bombardment from the air, was the death knell for the plains army’s, unlike the Coastal army with a clear battle then destruction, the plain army’s death was quick and like bread in water, with no communication between units and with few AT and AA weapons many units went to ground or deserted .
By the time many Olmar foot infantry had caught up with the mechanised units here was nothing to do but take prisoners and loot.
With both army’s defeated there was little to stop army marching on to Boaren which the government knew worrying about Olmar marching into its lands.
In the end
In the ned Peace was declared on the 11th of April 41 days after the war had begun Boaren and Olmar along with Hanu as natural “third party” signed a peace deal in the lore gardens in Hanu formatting the peace.
The peace was not the worst thing that Boaren could have got, the borders where unchanged, with Boaren agree to the old borders, a DMZ was placed that stretch 2 miles inland to Boaren boarders that forbid Boaren forces within though this did not include the graze guard, Boaren had to allow Hanu and Olamr military inspectors in to monitor Boaren military and war reparations.
For Meran It was oddly a good thing, sure it had lost some ships but that could be fixed the western fleet was in need of drastic reform anyway and the peace gave an excuse to exile or dismiss anyone too politically connected that stood in the way of reforms, Boaren long a wayward child had been humbled and came more firmly back in to Merans orbits, surrendering key political power in return for an increase in Meran military increase and equipment though this was not without some loss. Meran lost political standing and the idea of it being a failing power was confirmed by its inability to defeat a lesser rival though given the hatred between Meran and the rest of the world this did not trouble anyone.
For Hanu and Olmar it was a massive success, both powers gained political standings, both not only accomplishing their goals and were seen as reliability member for the pax democratic defence pacts.
For Hanu being seen as police man for the tip gave further rise to its standing as a growing power, being able to helps its ally go toe to toe with a world power even if a failing open would encourage Hanu to deepen its tie with surrounding allies Olmar being one of them.
Through Olmar would be busy too, the war convinced Olmar to carry out massive industrialising it had bene hold off along with greater mechanisation of its army, which would get a lot of uses as it would be used to police its newly secured borders, for much of the decade till the great industrial war, Olmar forces would be used in serval police actions gain some experiences that would be useful for it later occupation of Boaren.
Boaren for its moment doubled down, the sudden and viwed a weaker power was a surprise to alI, long independent, running home and humiliating itself at the base of the emperors feet in return for protection was viewed was near treason, the Boaren army was never reformed being view as too political damaged.
Instead the war was doubled down on ignored and scapegoated, while reformers tried to argue that Boaren loss was due to material not men , hard liners saw it differently and were silenced, rather than face the music they turns, training was increase along with the size of the army but modernizing reform was uneven and scattered, confined to few key items.
The war becomes something of taboo, unspoken about the war was dressed up as mix of traitors, weak men, and ungodliness, such was the unspeakableness of the war that war widows were denied pensions and the prisoners of war where not even allowed to return.
A feeling of dreads and despair griped he country, giving rise to the so called “grain “dictatorship as a mix of graze guards officers, business priests and politicians would create an emergency government that would last for over decades stifling dissents, and reform least till Boaren was “liberated” during the great industrial war by its old.
But that is a tale for another day.
