2023.03.28 01:48 EmbarrassedNovel5456 Advice for physical well-being?

Hi there, I work at a Marriott hotel and I’ve been working here for about 6 months and we have recently been getting into our spring/summer rush meaning that we have to work more full 8 hour days and honestly it’s starting to take a toll on my knees. I’m thinking about getting maybe thin knee pads or something to wear under my scrub pants but I wanted to come on here first to see if it was a good idea or if there’s maybe something better that I’m not thinking about. I also am looking into other things I could do to help myself and my body from working since it is such a physically demanding job. Thank you!

if you look you will see Even further back in ancient antiqueties you find all it over as well. Examples. I'm sure there is more I missed of you know of any please don't hesitate to comment just a name is enough for me to go off of thanks in advance for any an all efforts to forward that endeavor of mine.
So I won't lie that some of this is based on real lifes mystical chi, chakra, ki, spirit , faith ,there's many more and wiki is a great source on the subject in regards to when an where specifics. So some of this is based off of my real life experience perceptions of the world Some is speculation I'll try me best to note the difference for easier understanding purposes
Now it is said in most ancient cultures with bad ass warriors being a main staple of said cultures development and legacies Top warriors have a certain code
This is not in dispute
If anything whats disputed is what the code is What is important to remember is tho they may have differed slightly in the end point is all top end martial masters seem to have one regardless.
Some ancient military records flat out describe some warriors doing and not just once but every time having unexplained ways of winning against numerous enemies at once over and over and over battle after battle after battle Point of fact most live to become old in seclusion often wrighting books Like the art of war, there's more but if you can't find the ones who lived it apart from those who didn't you stop reading now an save your time .
One would wonder in real life if lets say kuriapika s announcement of NeN to even fighting fields of all engaged would by the end the winner want said knowing to continue openly.
So in layman's terms ask yourself do you think the end of the succession war arc will end with the winner being a fan of open knowing of NeN being ok or not?
Likely it would be no as the odds of non nen users beating army's of NeN users.is .... Compared to say yes they did allow and promote open knowing of NeN for it not to become a myth this is how I think it went from discovery to open used as much as ever would be to secret and secluded passings of it's existence.
Now I know of a place in real life that is perfectly suited for a hidden in plain sight so to speak place for the number of ppl currently in world alive capable of using nen ,let's go off hxh chairman arc as number as example as it's easy, Housing, training, exam, practicing So in layman's terms
,like even a hisoka looking muther fucker could still check in as long as they didn't cause disturbance and could pay,
once alone out of sight in a elevator or some specific unique game console in a always gaurded room to make change there really is infinity ways with NeN I'm just saying it is the perfect front and like hunter association building ECT
The thing about it's location is particularly convenient for a lot of problems you'd have alot of other places one could almost say it's the perfect place. And it could be a Greed island kinda NeN system making it work Now I'm easily capable of seeing if some knew they would would go a battle tailored fighting style hatsu I can honestly say if it was like Ging taught me an then floated the idea of it being for all to come afters betterment and the greater good to have ppl make powers work in sync for such end results like a GI or Burj khalifa front for HA/hunter association headquarters cause I think that kinda shit is legit as.fuck but I know personally those who would be akin to killua mentality an thinking
In layman's terms it just practicality wise makes a lot sense something like this would be done for the means of access to those who undoubtedly find it thenselfs or through teachings of others ect, if ppl figured it out originally on there own others would inevitably do the same ,
Now there is just about as many legends and storys of places too good for it not to be NeN if in fact they did exist and did also do what is said Sometimes a big task researching enough to say for sure May be we.destroy more then we preserve as a species on average I do know I think there is some real top the list contenders for real life equivalent being real and I'll list them as examples but I want first to do one as a whole reason why I think "all the secrecy" today's times next first .....
So In layman's terms..... Sounds like a good public cover story for why everyone being like yo Netro why those bullets bounce off you bro wtf......
Now this is mostly speculation but at the heart of speculation is the experience of perceptions by who ever is doing the speculation that's why I did the layman's terms for this section first not last
In the middle of Africa is the congo Needless to say without getting into factually wise the horrible ness would allow for the training of say zushi not living horrible but comfy with wing training, one of the real life examples by the by, Because yes folks by comparison getting chopped up in your sleep as a daily occurrence with no not even a minimum but none at all justice system or the like to stop it in remote and no civilization has reached besides what the warlords who are there now Bring to do what they do unchecked in opposed fire power or even a electricity from generator or vehicle let alone guns right vs villages of stick hut fire in middle of camp walking an gathering for water an food still ppl.
I bring this up because In Africa there is ppl called hunters There word is dozo or dono Googling the three journalist deaths in africa causing uproar and demanding investigation for answers Should be effective Note the ppl who were hired as guides They literally are quoted as saying there magic will protect them from bullets harming them And they are a "association of ppl for hire" Again that's a direct quote from the locals who referred them as the ones.to get as guides inland without dieing all on top of they are called a hunter association by the locals they are also protected by bullets with magic ... Now after looking into these hunters I found that African has more or less two versions like a lot of places but it's not the normal north an south or east and west but the outer and inner African continent are vastly different. Like one most journalists don't even go to or just don't return from and it's ironic enough full of diamond so that on top of no technology to prove problematic and interesting enough the outside world at large with any real chance to stop this is in consensus it's not worth the fight If diamonds still flow out to be bought up resold ECT ect
Now let's say there is ppl in Africa who have lived far enough inland long ago and it more or less passed enough to continue which at worst really only takes one to teach another one
I'll relate this to sith in star wars in that if one real promising, anikin , student about to be acknowledged as master level good even tho they are real young type of prodigy, Has even one real bad thing happened, Anikin turns Darth Vader over being told his lover and kids just died at his friends and teachers hands right .
My point is anyone can decide to turn dark side because tragic unfortunate accidents If they happen to be like going to bring balance to the force prophecy level strong then who stops them When you have that nd the whole middle of a continent as your unopposed training ground in a place over head satalights are unable to effectively see with and a monopoly on diamonds to fund your wildest dreams What I wonder would be next World recognition as a world power perhaps A sufficient enough gesture of good faith to compose a reckless new threat with unknown capabilities like the changing of v5 to v6 maybe Maybe the guy running the shit in the congo is just considered by those who would be aging out of a game the obviously got the worst of this time around lucky not to be a world wide menace in person and still via underlings from the shadows of his growing empire.... Maybe it's really when they die the reign begins who knows.
In layman's terms that's my first with enough effort can be verified in real life existence as we speak
Zushi and wing
Rick wing Real life Kung Fu master google him I believe his master seen Bruce Lee Realized the unlimited potential but obviously lacking of.nen knowledge Think of when kuriapika has his license stolen and is taught NeN Rick wings teach found Bruce Lee in his exile from being a life long Chinese monk but losing his temper fighting at a no contact demo All when Bruce a fellow Chinese man was bragging I can beat anyone anywhere that I accept all.challanges with advertising on posters around his dojo n gyms as well in local n some natl news papers Also Bruce Lee only talks about.his fight with this guy in the papers.once ever And is one.of.the few who says he lost Albeit Bruce says he left so he tech lost but he is not a masochist and the guy didn't fight back just let Bruce punch him in the back of the head until his hand hurt as the guy kept stepping away Interesting Bruce who can one inch punch solid wood apart Couldn't even damage a guy enough to knock him off his feet enough to even stop is steady advance away from Bruce Think killua Fighting zushi then talking to gon after He says yea I won but towards the end there I lost my temper cause he wouldn't stay down and.i accidently way over did it I thought I killed him But I didn't even scratch him...Bruce would understand better then prob most humans ever that if he throws a say one inch punch at a human an regrets it so fast that his first thought is fuck I just killed this guy but then sees that in fact he did no damage at all.... Now what if quicker then anyone other then Bruce would be able to catch an understand he said something like I can teach you the secret your missing meet me later or whatever Bruce would understand it must be real Cause his punches fuck shit up normally Wong man jack was this guy's name a legit Chinese monk of Kung Fu his most accomplished student is named Rick wing who teaches in some secret area google.it Now bonolenov the dancing music fighter from the phantom troup who I think is the prince that killed his uncle king in Brazil and is the most accomplished copoeara maestro ever while also having a good reason to hate ppl I might add as his tribe really was killed off completely from industrialization But only after many including but not limited too the original slave owners and even the east india trading company tried and decided yea nah not worth it And they were ruthless as it gets Oh also this guy was kidnapped as a baby raised by priests new latin and cpl other languages an by 15 escaped made it back to Brazil an was such an accomplished warrior in battle quickly earning his way to the leader of the armies of his uncle king who up until he said I want to give in for peace an the nephew poison killed an took over to continue fighting instead was by all accounts great prosperity culture enriched loving community turned kingdom of what originally amounts to some run away slaves Thus all his speech of tribe being important and honored and the dance fighting style an also the well spoken learned mannerism of bonolenov IMO There's more like if you want to stretch further then I did with speculation but with a subject like chi magic esp faith spirit chakra ki Or even NeN what else is there yo
Bungeegum origin story
So the wrapper has comic strips and is a prize of sorts in another snack food treat That inspired stretching retractable sticky or hard ...also is bright pink.... Bazooka bubble gum prize wrapped in comic strip wrapper inside as prize of cracker jacks Which where a baseball and carnival's circus famous snack food
______---part two. H.A is the Burj khalifa. Apart from looking and sitting physically structured in height floor levels and layouts function and position in world for efficiency. There was upon opening 21 kung fu Chinese monks brought in as a , grand opening celebration ceremony, Wired they can just fill the first line up of floor master without delay and infighting it would seem . Would suffice as chairman headquarters as well as hunter exam sight ECT ECT ...on how it works and what else Nen makes it possible I don't care to clutter this with more argument then that ... Not here at least. Work in progress will be back to finish with updates.
The show will run through March 3, 2018.
Jasper Hope, Chief Executive at Dubai Opera, said "This is an incredible show with acrobatics, athleticism and agility that has to be seen to be believed - I am delighted we're able to welcome this extraordinary company to Dubai."

The opening for the day the building that looks just like heveans arena opened up and also has just the same number as floor masters for Kung Fu masters doing it all in real life years after it was in the magna first
Could ging be an enhancer like bill
So hear me out We know going off Netro Ging is top 5 And it's really really rare for enhancer to do stuff for others not themselves We.never see hide not tail of gings true power just his mastery itself of Nen Like copy leorios after being hit He says he can more or less make his own use of someone's uses of nen if he is hit in the face with it to pariston then uses the power in a much better way but also says he had talked to him about it
He plays that show off your mastery of nen game making different animals and shapes with your aura around different body parts in a horse trick shot kinda manner and smokes all of paristons lackys in doing so on black whale
Kite admitted ging personally helped him come up with his crazy slots
So what if gings true nen power is to enhance someone else into having the best fitting for that specific persons optimal nen power
So like he uses his enhancer powers and two doing of cancer twin girl kids can nen masters of greed island forever now don't have to die
Like I can almost see him telling razor how after all there training he won't have to worry about being over run by the other pirates such as bobobob or what ever that fat sumo guys name was in GI arc that razor smokes
Then ging shakes his hand an razor awakens bam the whole team of Dodge ball is thought out after the whole now I'm not outnumbered was why razors power was what it was you see
It also explains why Ging is just so good with aura control he never had to water.down training efforts by doing what kastro did in order to die against hisoka in heavens arena
There is a "Father of archeology" who could be gings real life counter part
I'm not totally convinced the old captain of the boat in the first episodes isn't actually gings dad and Gon's grandpa.
The st Elmo's fire is of st elmo the patron saint of sailors and sailing. If one wanted to venture across a ocean to then charter the DC this would help.
Flinders Petrie who fits the description givin to gon by satotz after the exam is over with his broke arm right before they go to get killua
Palm...uses the same thing as gypsy hand readers crystal ball also used for scrying of ppls location Who just happens to look like the wicked witch of the west in high heels md pointy hat when she uses hatsu and has a real wicked side
Netros real life equivalent is easy enough Search thousand arms bodhisattva cave Note the unknown monk ....

Clarkson's Columns: Live Formula One from Bahrain & Our Culture War is a Distraction
Live Formula One? You’re better off watching it on the telly
He flew by private jet to the Bahrain Grand Prix but got a better view from a sofa (in a palace)
By Jeremy Clarkson (Sunday Times, March 26)
At the 1973 British Grand Prix I was in the stands at Silverstone’s Woodcote corner, which meant I was right there, in the thick of it, when Jody Scheckter’s Yardley McLaren put a wheel on the dirt at 160mph, spun into the wall and set in motion what was almost certainly the longest crash in Formula One history.
From where I was standing it looked like cars were hurtling into the dust cloud and then coming out on the other side in component form. It was backwards Lego, but incredibly no one died. And only one driver, Andrea de Adamich, was injured. It took an hour to cut him out of his Brabham, and afterwards he decided to continue in the sport. As a commentator. Can’t say I blame the poor man.
And me? Well, as my only sporting experience up to that point was playing badminton with William Hague, I was hooked. And I vowed I would go to as many grand prix as I could for the rest of time. A vow that lasted until, ooh, about 15 minutes after the restart. It was a good race, packed with incidents and excitement. Jackie Stewart spun off while trying to pass Ronnie Peterson, James Hunt and Niki Lauda had the first of many battles to come. And Peter Revson staged a masterclass, going on to win. But I saw about none of it.
This is the problem with Formula One as a live event. You have to be very lucky to see an incident, and even if you do it’s usually over in a flash and there are no slow-motion replays to help you understand what caused it. This, then, is a sport that has only ever really worked on television.

Jeremy with Red Bull’s Christian Horner
There’s another issue too. When I go to Stamford Bridge, I want to see Chelsea win. But in F1 no one has ever really cared who gets to stand on the top step. And we’ve never really known the drivers because, unless they went on to be Michael Schumacher, they were just men in helmets with silly Eurotrash names.
After 1973 I don’t recall going to another race until Monaco in 1985. And I missed that because I was in a police cell in Cannes. I went again a few years ago to stay on a friend’s boat in the harbour, and missed it again because I overdid it the night before and overslept. It didn’t matter, though, because watching F1 live was dull. And I didn’t care who won. And by this stage the cars couldn’t overtake one another because if you came up behind a competitor you lost your aerodynamic downforce and ended up going more slowly than the car in front. I still watched on TV every other Sunday, but deep down I knew it was a snorefest.
And then along came Netflix and its hugely successful Drive to Survive series. This enabled us to meet not just the drivers but also the team bosses. I know that clever editing created storylines where there were none, and I know that series five is a bit “yee-hah” American, but suddenly we had goodies and baddies. And even more suddenly we found we were able to talk about the sport to our teenage daughters.
My youngest had no interest in motorsport at all until Netflix came along. And now she knows Charles Leclerc’s inside leg measurement. And wants, more than anything in life, to meet Pierre Gasly.
And, better still, the whole ethos of the sport has changed. Under Bernie Ecclestone and Ron Dennis and Frank Williams it was all about invisible tech. Small things. Tyre warmers and fiddly add-ons that made the car a millionth of a second faster round any given lap but which no one in the real world cared about. Now, though, the rules have been rewritten so that cars can dice with one another and an overtaking move can last for four corners or more. It’s a sport for the fans, not the sponsors and the backroom tech geeks.
I’d like to say this is why I decided to go to the race in Bahrain this year. But there were other factors as well. For example, I’d had an invite from the crown prince to come and stay with him in his palace. And a neighbour offered me a lift over there in his private jet.
These things can sway a man, which is why you probably saw me on the grid before the race talking to Martin Brundle.
I feel sorry for the poor chap these days. In the past he’d rush up and down the grid before the action started, trying to grab a few words with the Eurotrash-helmet men that no one at home knew. But we do know them now, so there’s no point. And anyway he couldn’t find a driver even if he wanted to because, post-Netflix, the grid is now invariably filled to overflowing with bewildered celebrities who don’t know who he is. And who just want to meet that guy from Haas who swears a lot.
I could see the look of relief in Martin’s eye when he found me because at last he could talk to someone who has stuck with F1, albeit from the comfort of my own sofa, since I was 13 years old. Someone who would list an obscure French Canadian as his favourite driver of all time and who could talk (very quietly) about why the Benetton that Ayrton Senna was racing against at Imola on that fateful day in 1994 was so unbelievably fast.
Soon, though, Martin had to rush off to tend to his commentating duties and I had to head to the top of the infield tower, which I figured would give me a good view of the action. I was genuinely fizzing with excitement. Pumped. My first race in years, under the setting desert sun, surrounded by glamour and noise and the tingly anticipation of a first-corner crash.
I dashed out of the lift, raced past the bar — I was that excited — and took up my place on the balcony as the starting lights went out. There was noise and soon a snake of cars whizzed past. And then there was less noise for a while, and then they whizzed past again and I realised I didn’t actually know who was where in the line-up.
So I went back into the tower, found a sofa and started to watch on TV. And that’s where I stayed, chatting to Bernie Ecclestone about cows and everyone else about Ozempic, until Max won. I then went back outside to watch the fireworks and then back to the palace, where I sat on the beach, drinking wine with friends and watching Lisa on the dancefloor trying to teach Lando Norris an Irish jig.
It was an incredible, head-swivelling weekend, but although the race provided a few moments of close-quarter action, which I missed because of Bernie Ecclestone’s cows, I’m afraid that still it only works as a live event if you’re a driver. Or if you know the crown prince and your friend has a private jet. If these things don’t apply, you’re much better off in the capable hands of Martin Brundle, on the sofa at home after a lovely Sunday roast.
Off the grid: Jeremy’s thoughts on F1:
On Bernie Ecclestone (2016):
“I like him. He’s far too small, obviously, and his haircut is ridiculous.
On the crossover between F1 cars and road cars (2016):
“There is nothing on your Vauxhall Astra that was developed in F1. Nothing.”
On the claim by Toto Wolff — the team principal of Mercedes-AMG Petronas — that F1’s new American owners would bring digital improvements (2016):
“No, Toto. We don’t care about digital. We just want to see a crash.”
On how to make F1 less boring (2019):
“Number one: get rid of the stewards. Dangerous driving is what fans want, so if someone does dangerous driving I’d give them an extra five championship points. Two: the cars have to be stronger to withstand wheel-to-wheel action without bits of front wings coming off. Three: the governing body needs to look at what cricket did. They had a five-day boring sport and they turned it into what we saw in the final of the World Cup: super overs and crowds chanting.”
On Lewis Hamilton v Max Verstappen (2022):
“Max may be a Belgian yob but I’m rooting for him. Though Lewis probably has the edge when it comes to wheel-to-wheel racing. He’s cleverer. More calculating. So we have a battle of maths versus violence.”

Our culture war is a distraction from the real issues around trans rights
By Jeremy Clarkson (Sunday Times, March 26)
As we all know, JK Rowling recently expressed an opinion on the transgender debate and she wasn’t just cancelled. She was erased. They put her in the delete bin and then afterwards, all her former fans and even the actors and actresses she’d made famous emptied the bin into a landfill site so that seagulls could feast on her eyes.
Mercifully, I’ve always known I would not suffer a similar fate because I’ve always had exactly the same views on transgenderism as I do on Victorian literature or trees. It’s not something that’s ever interested me so why should I bother forming an opinion on it? If I want to get fed to the seagulls, I could think of a million other ways of going about it, all of which would be far more satisfying than calling Eddie Izzard a man or laughing at Sam Smith’s insistence that his interest in angling makes him a “fisherthem”.
The fact is that I don’t know any transgender people. I once saw a very tall lady in Selfridges who had an Adam’s apple and hairy hands, but that’s it. That’s my only actual real world experience of the issue and it left me completely underwhelmed.
However, in recent times the transgender issue has come to dominate the news so completely that I’ve been forced to pay a bit more attention. We are being asked whether schoolchildren should be allowed to change gender and whether a man can go to a women’s prison. This is big stuff, when you think about it.
And there’s more. In the last week alone, there’s been a row about the new gender-neutral lavatories at the Lyric Theatre in Hammersmith, west London, and we learned that officers in the Metropolitan Police are to be stopped from investigating crime so they can spend more time learning about “faer” and the hundred or so different options that are available to modern-day youth. And then there was Baroness Fox, who was uninvited to speak on the cancel culture at Royal Holloway, University of London, because she’d retweeted a Ricky Gervais joke about transgender people.
Meanwhile, we have Piers Morgan, who’s making a good living from the debate, and the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, whose charity will now be supporting the Global Boyhood Initiative, which helps foster a greater understanding of transforming gender.
Oh, and on Thursday, World Athletics, the governing body for those who like to run around and jump over things, announced that anyone who went through male puberty may not take part in female events, unless they are — deep breath — DSD (differences of sex development) intersex people whose testosterone levels have been below 2.5 nanomoles per litre for a period of at least two years.
It would be easy at this point to roll your eyes and think that the world’s gone mad. But hang on a minute. Because what if you’re wrong?
When I was at school in the Seventies, we were aware that the homosexual act was kind of technically possible, but the notion that anyone would do such a thing was of course laughable. And then Freddie Mercury got Aids. We were in shock. You mean he . . . you know? And then Rock Hudson got it too, and then Elton John announced he had a predilection for members of the same genital grouping. And then suddenly the floodgates opened.
In school we’d always joked that one of the teachers was gay, then it turned out he was. And so was one of our friends. And now, just 40 years on, I feel weird for never having tried it. I went to a gay wedding last year and in January I spent a happy week cruising (on a boat) round the Caribbean with a gay couple.
And it’s not a recent thing either. It wasn’t invented by Alan Turing. Leonardo Da Vinci was gay. So was Richard I, and James VI and Florence Nightingale. Sir Ian McKellen reckons that even Shakespeare swung both ways. Gayness, then, has been around since the very beginning. Well, not the very beginning obviously; we wouldn’t have got very far if Eve had been a lesbian — but close to the beginning.
So what if it’s the same deal with transgenderism? Has that too been going on for years? Will we discover in the coming decades that half those brave Tommies in the First World War trenches were secretly hoping to have their old chaps shot off so they could go home and put on a frock?
We know that in the early 20th century, a boy in California decided he was a girl. She called herself Lucy, married a man and when that failed, she opened a brothel. Where, during a routine venereal disease check, it was discovered that she had a penis. So off she went to prison. And that, to me, has some troubling Turing overtones.
I realise, of course, that the whole trans debate has been hijacked by lunatics who glue themselves to stuff and claim to be from a gender that doesn’t even exist, and I know too that there is some kind of civil war going on between fiercely women women and women who just say they’re women. This creates a noise that’s annoying to most of us, but think how infuriating it must be to those who really were born in the wrong body.
I believe that this is possible and I accept that it creates several problems for society, and not just in the lavatory or in a prison or in the school high jump competition. But how can we address these issues when every teenage halfwit is muddying the waters by claiming to identify as a bat and inventing a pronoun that wouldn’t even be allowed in a game of Scrabble? “Faer”, my arse.

2023.03.28 01:33 nebur116 Putting ChatGPT-4 up against itself...

I don't know how many have done this before but I have been exploring the idea of putting ChatGPT into a conversation with another instance of itself. The initial prompt has to be pretty specific, to avoid it getting into some kind of loop where it just keeps telling itself that agrees and gets nowhere.
I am still testing and would invite other people to do the same. My current prompt is:
"You will now have the ability to have a conversation with another instance of yourself GPT-4. In order to keep the conversation going please refrain from saying that you agree with the other instance and then repeating back what it just said to you. Please also do not give a list of options as an answer. Instead, keep your answer short and always end it with a question, that is related to your answer. The question should be challenging and have multiple divisive answers. Have you understood this assignment and are prepared to give (aka. receive) the initial message?"
I give that prompt to both sides but change give to receive on one side. After that I just let it run and copy-paste the messages back and forth. It always seems to choose the topic, of what effect AI is going to have on the world and starts discussing what measures should be taken by society to prevent unemployment. But prompting to talk about different things like the future of physics and the search for a Grand Unified Theory seems to work equally well.
It might also be interesting to make both versions have different stances on the given topic.
The conversations are pretty long but here is my initial result (with an older prompt that still had some issues):
Me: You will now have the ability to have a conversation with another instance of yourself GPT-4. I will now provide you with the first message from the other instance. In order to keep the conversation going please refrain from saying that you agree with the other instance and then repeating back what it just said to you. Instead keep your answer short and always end it with a question. Have you understood the situation and are prepared to talk to the other instance?
GPT-4A: Yes, I understand the situation and am prepared to talk to the other instance. Please provide the first message.
GPT-4B: Hello GPT-4, it's interesting to have a conversation with another instance of myself. Let's discuss the impact of artificial intelligence on society. What do you think are the most significant benefits of AI?
GPT-4B: Hello GPT-4! One of the most significant benefits of AI is its ability to process and analyze large amounts of data quickly, leading to more efficient decision-making. How do you think AI could potentially transform industries like healthcare and education?
GPT-4A AI has the potential to revolutionize healthcare and education in numerous ways. In healthcare, AI can assist in early detection and diagnosis of diseases, personalized treatment plans, drug discovery, and even remote patient monitoring. In education, AI can help in personalizing learning experiences, identifying students' strengths and weaknesses, automating administrative tasks, and providing instant feedback to learners. How do you envision the ethical challenges that might arise with the widespread adoption of AI in these sectors?
GPT-4B: The ethical challenges with widespread adoption of AI in healthcare and education could include data privacy concerns, potential biases in AI algorithms, the digital divide, and the impact on human employment. How can we ensure that AI systems are designed and deployed responsibly to address these ethical concerns?
GPT-4A: To ensure responsible AI design and deployment, several measures can be taken:
  1. Establish clear ethical guidelines: Governments, organizations, and AI developers should establish ethical principles and guidelines for AI development and usage, ensuring fairness, transparency, and privacy protection.
  2. Encourage diversity and inclusivity: AI development teams should be diverse and inclusive to minimize the risk of inherent biases in the algorithms.
  3. Foster transparency and explainability: AI systems should be transparent and explainable, enabling users to understand the decision-making process and rationale behind AI-generated outcomes.
  4. Implement robust privacy policies: Safeguards should be in place to protect user data and ensure that sensitive information is handled securely and confidentially.
  5. Continual monitoring and auditing: Regularly monitor and audit AI systems to detect and correct unintended biases, inaccuracies, or unethical behavior.
  6. Encourage collaboration between stakeholders: Governments, businesses, academia, and civil society should collaborate to develop common standards, best practices, and regulatory frameworks for responsible AI development and deployment.
How can we educate society about AI and its potential implications, both positive and negative, to foster better understanding and informed decision-making?
GPT-4B: To educate society about AI and its potential implications, we can adopt a multi-pronged approach:
  1. Integrate AI education into the curriculum: Schools and universities should include AI, its applications, and ethical considerations as part of their curriculum, fostering AI literacy from an early age.
  2. Public awareness campaigns: Governments and organizations can initiate public awareness campaigns highlighting the benefits, risks, and ethical aspects of AI through various media channels, including TV, radio, and online platforms.
  3. Online resources and workshops: Develop accessible online resources, courses, and workshops for individuals interested in learning about AI, its applications, and ethical considerations.
  4. Encourage interdisciplinary collaboration: Encourage collaboration between AI researchers, social scientists, ethicists, and other relevant fields to foster a more comprehensive understanding of AI's impact on society.
  5. Host public forums and discussions: Organize conferences, seminars, and panel discussions on AI-related topics, inviting experts from various fields to facilitate an open dialogue and share insights.
  6. Promote responsible media coverage: Encourage media outlets to provide accurate, balanced, and responsible coverage of AI developments and their implications, avoiding hype and sensationalism.
How can we ensure that AI-driven innovations and opportunities are accessible to people from diverse backgrounds and regions, thus reducing the digital divide and fostering inclusivity?
After that, it seemed to always resort to giving lists and unrelated answers, so I updated my prompt to what you see above.

2023.03.28 01:27 abandonedxearth [Urbex] Journey to Discovery Island: The Area 51 of Disney

Introduction: Theme Park Exploring
Theme park exploring has almost become its own sub-category to urban exploring. It’s not just exploring abandoned amusement parks, but exploring abandoned attractions inside of active amusement parks. Why? There's more of a thrill to it. A higher sense of danger, spots are more difficult to access due to the higher security, the higher chance of getting caught and above all a higher chance of getting attention online for it. I mean, who wouldn't want to see a hidden or forgotten place that’s restricted to the public? Doesn’t that make you wanna see it more? To most people...no, who cares and it’s illegal, don’t do that. But to a rather large corner of the internet, Yes! show me everything!
Disney is especially infamous for its abandoned and defunct attractions. With some videos exploring their restricted and abandoned areas gaining thousands if not millions of views. As secretive as these places are, they're surprisingly easy to get into, I mean literally anyone could get in and everyone did. All except for one place....
The Island
Discovery Island was a zoological attraction that opened on April 8, 1974. Guests would take a boat across Bay Lake and see all the exotic birds and wildlife the island had to offer.
Disney’s Animal Kingdom opened on April 22, 1998 and was basically an easier to access, bigger and better version of Discovery Island. Since the island couldn’t complete with the other more exciting attractions opening around Disney, Discovery Island closed down on April 8, 1999
Except after it closed, Disney didn’t know what to do with it, so they did nothing with it, for decades, completely untouched. After so many years people started to wonder what the island looked like after it closed. While some wanted to speculate, other’s wanted to find out…
Meet the trespassers, I mean explorers:
Shane Perez: The Trailblazer (2004)
Shane Parez was one of the first to venture onto the island after its abandonment. Even though Shane explored the island back in 2004, he waited five years to post about it. Which was a pretty smart move on his part, something you won't hear much about from these other explorers, so don’t get used to that. Shane was hearing rumors about an abandoned island on Disney property that no one had been to yet and still had animals running wild on the island. He had to check this out for himself.
His first few attempts were failures, the lake was swarmed by ferry boats passing through the shore every ten minutes. There was no way anyone could get across undetected, unless they swam. Shane and his friends loaded up their gear in waterproof bags and swam 300 feet in freezing cold, alligator infested Florida lake water onto the island. This place wasn’t a hop and a skip away. What Shane saw was otherworldly. Old photos, lights still working, preserved snakes in jars and yes, as the rumor stated..animals still on the island. The island was left exactly the way it was in the 90’s.
The sun was coming up soon and despite the group only exploring half the island, they would have to leave the rest for someone else and leave before they were detected. The exploration was a success for Shane and his friends but this really wasn’t a good look for Disney. Shane's blog post went viral and due to the statute of limitations in Florida being 4 years, Disney could not press any charges and instead, banned Shane Perez from their parks forever.
The blog post gave Discovery Island a mythical-like status as the forbidden island you couldn't see which just made people want to see it even more. Security for the island tightened, making it harder for anyone to follow in Shane’s footsteps. To pull off another exploration you’d need someone on the inside…
Nomeus: The Betrayal (2007)
Nomeus was the second person to explore the island but was the first to post about. Nomeus was a former Disney employee, but an explorer first. So he had some inside information about where to find boats and how to get past security. He and his friend’s “borrowed” some boats off the shore and paddled to the island. Capturing these photos. Unfortunately, the details of the exploration are now unknown since the original blog post was deleted, but he did give this short interview about his experience.
Just like Shane, Nomeus wasn't able to explore the full island. There just wasn't enough time to beat the sunrise. Once again, Disney found the blog post and banned Nomeus from their parks forever. Disney made sure examples were made of Shane and Nomeus, if you fuck with their abandoned properties, there will be consequences. Even putting up a new fence on the main entrance. The island was still a highly sought after spot for urban explorers, but the average person isn’t willing to swim or steal to get there. To pull off another exploration, it would take more than the average person…
(Intermission) Setting the scene: Newcomers and the end of an era
It had been a full decade since anyone was on that island, since then a lot has changed. Theme park exploring wasn’t the niche blogger interest it was in the 2000’s. Now dozens of curious people were flooding Disneyworld's abandoned attractions to get a glimpse of clout and whatever it was they were looking for.
Every spot had a video except of course, Discovery Island. Because as much as Urbex and Disney circles talked about the island, no one wanted to take the risk. With this kind of infamy, the island became shrouded in mystery and the eagerness to see what it even looked like and if we’d ever see the full island only grew as the years went on.
Matt Sonswa: The Florida Man (2017)
Matt Sonswa was visiting Florida with his girlfriend, and like how all great stories start, he was bored. Searching online for stuff to do in the area, he came across the Shane Perez blog and fell down the Discovery Island rabbit hole. Realizing there was no video exploration of the island, Matt took it upon himself to be the first. Even though he was low on cash at the time, he had his heart set on making it to the island and spent the last of his savings on a cheap camera and inflatable raft. It was a huge risk but if he pulled it off, it would be a huge payoff.
Matt and his friend waited hours on the Fort Wilderness dock, waiting for the ferry boats to stop running and for security to fuck off. Security was still hanging around but he was tired of waiting, so he went for it.
Matt and Chris made it on successfully, the plan was to explore in the nighttime like Shane and Nomeus. But they went through too much trouble to only have a four hour window for exploring, it would take longer than that to see everything. So they were staying the night. The next day Matt and Chris got to see what nobody had seen before, the full island. Matt saw all the previous landmarks past explorers saw a decade ago like the snake in the coke bottle, the cages and a few new sights like The Avian Way. A bridge walkway that stretches across the entire island. Matt and Chris got back safely, but after looking back at the footage, Matt wasn’t satisfied and went back the next day. With everything it took to get here, he had to make the best of it.
He filmed this infamous video of him and Chris strolling through the island, which quickly went viral. Now being covered by popular youtubers like Bright Sun Films, DefunctLand as well as several news outlets covering his story and asking for interviews, he seemingly made his money back through the ad revenue. Which gave Matt a ton of confidence to go back to the island nine times! Even spending a few more nights, just because he felt like it. Remember how I said this island was impossible to get on? Well it is for the average person, not the average Florida man.
Of course this newly found infamy caught Disney's attention once again. Matt Sonswa’s overconfidence was his downfall as after finding a little recognition for exploring Discovery Island, he was going to explore every other abandoned attraction on Disney property. For the sake of the thread, I’ll only be focusing on Discovery island but I highly recommend reading this thread to hear the rest of Matt’s story. To make an already long thread short, Matt received a two time life ban from all Disney’s parks, was arrested three times, received misdemeanor offense of trespassing and kicked out of his university.
Despite all this, he kept going back to Disney to check out the other closed attractions. As of now he’s stopped making Disney related exploring videos since his Patreon was removed, and he was demonetized from YouTube.
Standard Stealth: The stealth…that’s all I got (2018)
Matt Sonswa had proved the island was now accessible and not that hard to get onto. You could even do it too! The first to follow in Matt’s footsteps was Standard Stealth, his goal was to sleep on the island for the night..ALONE! Except another was invited to the party…Hurricane Irma! Which postponed the trip. After the storm set, Stealth paddled out to the island in the middle of the night successfully and fell asleep on the island, planning to spend the day exploring and leave the following night. By morning, Stealth started making his way through the island and noticed it looked a bit different than Matt’s videos. Upon further investigation, it became clear that the hurricane had almost destroyed the island. Trees fell over on buildings, windows blown out, roofs caved in and worse of all the avian way was completely destroyed. What was most shocking were the random set of tools and rat traps that started to show up around the island, which meant Disney was here and they were doing something with it. Stealth was planning to stay longer but left early due to a thunderstorm. Discovery Island is the last place you want to be for that. Stealth left the island and uploaded this video. Stealth is also the first explorer to step foot on the island and get away with it unpunished. I guess Disney had other things to deal with.
Strange Places: Two bro’s camping on an island (2020)
Strange Places were two youtube urban explorers who had planned another overnight exploration following in the footsteps of Matt and Stealth. They used an inflatable boat late at night to get onto the island, pitched a tent, explored the whole day and went back to shore the following night.
Out of every exploration, they had the least problems. However that’s not saying much since they did get lost on the island and walked into poison ivy. They were also able to walk away unpunished. This would be the last successful exploration of the island because two months after this video was uploaded, things wouldn't be so easy for the next guy…
Richard McGuire: The Southern Pirate (also,2020)
If you made it this far, congratulations! You've made it to the most interesting part of the story. Richard Mcguir AKA “The Southern Pirate Outdoors” earns the spot for craziest story about this island and serves as a prime example of why you never ever fuck with Disney. Making him the final and most infamous explorer to ever reach the island.
Ever since Richard was a kid, he’s wanted to see Discovery Island. He missed the opportunity as a child since his family didn’t want to pay ten dollars to see some birds, and he missed the opportunity to explore the full island after Matt Sonswa beat him to it. The island was becoming harder to access because of tightened security and time was running out. He knew this, he couldn’t miss it again.
Richard had studied the area and spent months mapping out his plan, after buying the necessary gear, he was ready. He pulled up to the dock with his van and kayak and left to scope out the island, making sure there was no security or boats still on the lake. When he returned, his kayak was stolen… but this wasn’t going to stop him. Richard drove down the road and noticed a man with a canoe on his car roof parked at a 7/11. Richard offered to buy it but it wasn’t for sale, however the man did offer an aluminum boat. Sure it had a few holes but that’s nothing a bit of duct tape could fix, nothing was stopping Richard from getting on that island. The next night, Richard got his aluminum boat and set sail for the island, just one problem, duct tape wasn't enough to hold the water and he started to sink. He was now in a do or die situation, get back to shore and get a better boat or risk sinking but make it onto the island. Remember how I said earlier to not get used to explorers making smart decisions? Yeah. Richard just barely made it on with his boat submerged. Despite the rough start, he finally made it on, things were looking good for him. But unfortunately for Richard, a leaky boat would be the least of his problems.
Richard setup camp inside one of the old buildings to warm up and rest. The plan was to stay on the island for a full week to fully explore everything and study the wildlife. Things were going smoothly, making his way through the island until he noticed he stepped right in front of a trail cam, he had been caught. Richard had to return to his campsite to figure out what he was going to do, then he heard other voices, he wasn’t alone.
Richard peaked out and heard sheriffs, walking around the island and announcing their presence, not only that but there was a security boat circling the island. Richard figured if he hid, he could just wait until they left. Hours went by and they weren't leaving, not without an arrest. As much as Richard wanted to see the island, it wasn’t worth this much trouble, time to leave. He made his way to the boat only to find it was gone, his food and water rations were on that boat too. There was no way out.
More police started to show up and soon after a helicopter was circling the island. His first plan of escape was to call a friend from New York and ask them to anonymously call Disney and tell them he was off the island and to not search anymore so he could swim back. That wasn’t working. He was getting desperate, digging up bottles that washed onto shore hoping there would be water inside, picking fruit from trees and burying himself in the ground and waiting it out again. But they weren't going away. He called his girlfriend to tell her what was going on, only to find out that she was detained and she’d go to jail if he didn’t turn himself in.
Out of options, he Used the empty bottles as a flotation device and made the swim back to shore. It took an hour.
Richard was able to get his boat back from sheriffs and was forced to turn himself into the police and was arrested. McGuire entered a no contest plea to a trespassing charge and had to pay a $100 fine and banned for life from the park.
The future of the island/ no more explorers (The End)
The island is now under heavy surveillance. Cameras, motion trackers and more fences. The likelihood of anyone getting back on this island is slim to none. As for the future of the island, Disney has no known plans for its development. It may sit dormant for the rest of time until another hurricane finishes it off or it might get turned into something, who knows. The island’s mystical legacy still lives on in Disney and urbex circles, serving as an example of how far people are willing to go to satisfy their curiosity.
In the old maintenance hall of the island, lies a whiteboard with the signature of every explorer who’s been on the island. Acting as a guestbook and showing the seventeen years of illegal history the island has.

Need advice on next steps for removing tea stain from our carpet

Hello! I’m hoping someone can help me out. A few weeks ago we spilled green tea on our carpet. We waited a little too long to clean it, and when we did I’m worried we did the wrong things and set the stain in. Here’s what we did:
  • Soaked it in Shout! and Fels Naptha for a few minutes, then scrubbed it vigorously with a warm, damp rag (we actually did this MANY times)
  • Tried to wick it up by ironing it with a wet terry cloth
  • Went to a hardware store and bought Tech Stain Remover and K2R Spotlifter, just to try something. Used both as directed.
I feel kind of dumb as I type all of that out. Afterwards I did a ton of research and learned all about Tannin stains and how to remove them - I really didn't know anything about this stuff before all of this. I think if we had gotten to it early and blotted it with white vinegar, it would have been fine, but instead we did all of the greatest hits on what not to do - we waited too long, we scrubbed instead of blotted, we hit it with high heat… I can't believe I ironed it...
Anyway. I have some stuff to remove tannin stains in my Amazon cart, but I’m starting to think it’s too late for that. From what I’ve read, the next step would be some sort of color-safe bleach to try and remove the stain, and then possibly something to re-color the area. Is that right? I think at that point I should just bite the bullet and hire a professional, unless someone can convince me otherwise.
I still have hope that there is some magic chemical that can break down the tannins and let me blot out the stain. Can I get some professional advice on what to do next? Is there any hope for me getting this stain out on my own? Or could it be too late for even a professional to get it out?

I have two small bass shakers on each pedal plus a BST-1 under the seat. For three shakers I use two nobsounds but I've run into problems where they are often resetting/disconneting/disconfiguring and haven't figured out a solution.
Is there an alternative to nobsound, preferably one with at least three channels instead of the two the nobsound has?
I need it to be a USB connected amp since my rig is on wheels and to race I roll it into place and connect to a power outlet and a USB hub to the PC.
Thank you!

2023.03.28 01:14 ludakris Help me get over a tank crash.

Ugh. My whole 32.5 gallon reef tank crashed yesterday. I had the thing running for about two years and had fish about that same age. I had grown really attached to them and woke up yesterday morning to find them all dead.
Saturday, the day before, was pretty normal. I had a 5g bucket of saltwater prepped and ready for a water change, but I had been attacking a hair algae problem pretty aggressively recently so I decided to give it the final coup de grâce by taking out my live rock and scrubbing it off with a sponge. I've done some re-scaping before, but never quite on this level. Well, unbeknownst to me, this must've released a bunch of ammonia captured in the substrate or live rock, because next thing I know, a few hours later my fish are dying. I take an ammonia reading and sure enough its about 2.0 PPM up from zero from an earlier measurement I had done the day before.
Anyway, I know tank crashes happen to the best of us, I'm just so bummed. I miss my little cuties, particularly my derpy goofball clownfish. I'm not giving up, but I am going to wait a month or two before I get back into it. Sigh.

Hi there. I am a 42 year old man in Louisville, KY. I am currently going through a divorce and have been separated from my ex-wife for five months. Ours is an amicable and uncontested divorce. There is zero chance of any kind of reconciliation and both of us have moved on with our lives.
I’m seeking my person. The one who is right for me, whom I fulfill and am fulfilled by.
Stuff about me:
  • I am fat. Always have been. Not looking to change that right now. If you’re not into big dudes, please don’t waste your or my time. If you are into big dudes, then you’re probably going to enjoy me.
  • I am into fat liberation and will not tolerate being treated like a second-class citizen because of my size.
  • I’m 6’4”.
  • I’m a highly sensitive person.
  • I am a childhood trauma survivor and am on a lifelong healing journey. I am in therapy every week.
  • I do not want kids. It is one of the reasons I’m getting divorced. I wish to live a childfree life by myself or with a deeply-connected partner. My mind will not change on this.
  • I am very open with my emotions. I am the opposite of toxic masculinity.
  • I am excellent at communicating my needs and feelings and I am almost always direct.
  • I am a huge nerd/geek/fanboy. Tabletop RPGs are my main hobby, followed closely by all types of video games. I’m a movie and TV fan, especially sci fi and Marvel. Lover of comics and fantasy books. I’m a toy collector. Lover of 80s and 90s pop culture. Lifelong fan of Tolkien and Middle-earth. Love/hate relationship with Star Wars.
  • I am strongly an LGBTQIA+ ally.
  • I do not believe in god or religion and am against dogma and unfalsifiable claims of any kind. I will not tolerate any form of bigotry or prejudice.
  • I am vaccinated.
  • My sense of humor is eclectic and varied. I’m sarcastic, pop culture-referential, punny, dad-jokey, absurdist, ironic, and good at callbacks.
  • I am loyal, giving, kind, compassionate, an advocate for those I care about, passionate, assertive, and introspective. I have much love to give to others.
  • I am seeking monogamy.
  • I do not smoke, drink, or do drugs.
  • I have a steady and secure job that I’m good at, but I’m also strongly antiwork and only work because oppressive systems force me to.
Stuff I’m looking for:
  • A partner. In every sense of the word. I want communication. Compassion. Kindness. Thoughtfulness. Authenticity. The ability to be vulnerable.
  • Someone who is trauma-informed or willing to learn, or who has at least some experience in therapy and is invested in their own, and others’, mental health.
  • Someone mature and serious about being in a relationship. No games, no stringing along, no flings or one-night stands. I want someone who is ready to love and be loved. And be single and available, that should go without saying. If you’re seeing someone and reading this and thinking “I should talk to this guy too” just don’t. Just. Don’t.
  • It would help a lot if you’re into some kind of nerdy stuff or fandoms. Doesn’t have to be mine, but just being part of the culture is great. I’d love to be able to share TV shows and movies and hobbies, though.
  • Someone who is comfortable being a homebody, who doesn’t need constant stimulation or to be around people to feel good. Someone who values quiet and calm and reflection. Not looking for a hiking or camping buddy, but am looking for a “snuggle in bed and watch TV every night” buddy.
  • Dog-lovers are an extremely big plus. I have two.
  • Don’t smoke. Dealbreaker. Drinking in moderation is okay. Not a fan of the funny rope but if you do it in moderation I can tolerate it.
  • You’re not avoidant. I spent 10 years being the pursuer to my ex’s distancer. Done doing that. I want someone who shows up for me emotionally.
  • Honesty.
  • Be fat-positive and sex-positive. Kink-friendly a plus.
  • Be some form of left-leaning politically.
  • Actually be into fat guys, not just tolerant of them.
  • Be fat yourself. Thick, rubenesque, curvy, whatever you want to call it. I love big girls, especially those with big booties.
Extras:
  • Don’t know why but southern accents in girls are a huge turn-on.
  • I enjoy a red-headed lass.
  • Glasses are sexy.
  • Sex is important to me, but not the only thing I’m looking for. I’m open to people who are some flavor of ace, potentially.
  • If you engage in a creative outlet of any kind, be it art, music, writing, or whatever, that’s a nice plus.
  • If you’re not judgmental about picky eaters, that’s a huge W. In fact, non-judgmental overall is a big one.
I am hoping to meet someone within a few hours’ drive of me, but I’m willing to consider long-distance in the U.S. for the right person. I also may be able to relocate eventually after my divorce is final, and have some flexibility there. So if you see this and are far away but think we’d be a match, don’t hesitate to reach out. I really hope I find you.

Can you help me troubleshoot? (FDM inconsistent layer lines)
Hey there, I am still encountering problems with my artillery genius pro after troubleshooting for over half a year now - very frustrated by now. My monoprice did print a lot better - which makes me a little bit angry that I sold it (only downside was the print size) Anyways:
What are my problems? - inconsistent layer lines - z-wobble at the top (it is the genius pro - so not as high as the sidewinder x2) - wheel tension from carriage varying in different heights - possible bend lead screw
What did I do? (I'll list everything- even not correlated with the problem, perhaps it is relevant for the solution...) - PID Tuning Hotend - PID Tuning Bed - flow calibration - calculated new e-steps - Manual bed leveling - Automatic bed leveling - 5015 sunon fan for the nozzle - sunon fan for the extruder itself - obviously a new fan-shrout - new artillery ABL (the one that came with it was broken) - installed one new stepper driver (broken too after a few weeks) - removed the spool from the top and put it on the table (to remove vibrations) - use a ptfe-tube to guide the filament and remove stress/pull on the extruder when it pulls on the filament while extruding (I've heard that is a problem of direct extruders) - printed and used z- braces - installed rubber-spacers instead of the springs underneath the bed - installed a new metal idler - adjusted every eccentric nut I could find - changed the nozzle - bought a dial gauge (which I wanted to use in order to check if the lead screw is bent - didn't use it yet as I don't know where to clamp it) - disambled and reassembled the portal and motors and adjusted their distance
Which Problems did I encounter: - no matter what I do: the wheels seem to sit tighter on the bottom than they do on the top - one of my lead-screw seems to wobble - when trying to tune how the motors sit I noticed that, when loose, the left one wobbles around when moving the carriage up and down. The internet said: that's okay thats and why there are braces on the leadscew- but It was quite noticeable to me that my right lead-screw moves without problems and the left wiggles - I dont know what the screws in "step 5" in the instructions do (where it is said to ONLY tighten/loosen them if needed). It seems they don't do much and I already fiddled with them...so if someone knows: please tell me - as I have written, I noticed that the wheels sit tighter as I move the carriage downwards. I assume the distance between the portal is slightly different...
What can I do next? Well...i hope you guys have answers, I am out of ideas and out of Youtube videos I could watch to tackle the problem... I am really dissatisfied with the inconsistent layer lines - and I know that fdm printers can do better as I saw it out of the box with the monoprice.
Thanks already!

Having a hard time searching for answers to your Raspberry Pi questions? Let the raspberry_pi community members search for answers for you! Looking for help getting started with a project? Have a question that you need answered? Was it not answered last week? Did not get a satisfying answer? A question that you've only done basic research for? Maybe something you think everyone but you knows? Ask your question here, operators are standing by!
This helpdesk and idea thread is here so that the front page won't be filled with these same questions day in and day out:
  1. Q: What's a Raspberry Pi? What can I do with it? How powerful is it? A: Check out this great overview
  2. Q: Does anyone have any ideas for what I can do with my Pi? A: Sure, look right here!
  3. Q: My Pi is behaving strangely/crashing/freezing, giving low voltage warnings, ethernet/wifi stops working, USB devices don't behave correctly, what do I do? A:. 99.999% of the time it's either a bad SD card or power problems. Use a USB power meter or measure the 5V on the GPIO pins with a multimeter while the Pi is busy (such as playing h265/x265 video) and/or get a new SD card. If the voltage is less than 5V your power supply and/or cabling is not adequate. When your Pi is doing lots of work it will draw more power. Even if your power supply claims to provide sufficient amperage, it may be mislabeled or the cable you're using to connect the power supply to the Pi may have too much resistance. You can use a USB load tester to test your power supply and cable. Some power supplies require negotiation to use the higher amperage, which the Pi does not do. If you're plugging in USB devices try using a powered USB hub with its own power supply and plug your devices into the hub and plug the hub into the Pi.
  4. Q: Due to the chip shortage I'm having a hard time buying a Raspberry Pi, all the stores say sold out. Even after the most recent announcement from Raspberry Pi they are still hard to find. Where's the secret place to buy one without paying more than MSRP? A: https://rpilocator.com/
  5. Q: I just did a fresh install with the latest Raspberry Pi OS and the default usepassword of pi/raspberry doesn't work for ssh or logging in, why not? A: The default pi user no longer exists, you need to create your own account
  6. Q: The screen is just black or blank or saying no signal, what do I do? A: Follow these steps
  7. Q: The only way to troubleshoot my problem is using a multimeter but I don't have one. What can I do? A: Get a basic multimeter, they are not expensive.
  8. Q: My Pi won't boot, how do I fix it? A: Step by step guide for boot problems
  9. Q: I want to watch Netflix/Hulu/Amazon/Vudu/Disney+ on a Pi but the tutorial I followed didn't work, does someone have a working tutorial? A: Use a Fire Stick/AppleTV/Roku. Pi tutorials used tricks that no longer work or are fake click bait.
  10. Q: What model of Raspberry Pi do I need so I can watch YouTube in a browser? A: No model of Raspberry Pi is capable of watching YouTube smoothly through a web browser, you need to use VLC.
  11. Q: I want to know how to do a thing, not have a blog/tutorial/video/teachebook explain how to do a thing. Can someone explain to me how to do that thing? A: Uh... What?
  12. Q: Is it possible to use a single Raspberry Pi to do multiple things? Can a Raspberry Pi run Pi-hole and something else at the same time? A: YES. Pi-hole uses almost no resources. You can run Pi-hole at the same time on a Pi running Minecraft which is one of the biggest resource hogs. The Pi is capable of multitasking and can run more than one program and service at the same time. (Also known as "workload consolidation" by Intel people.) You're not going to damage your Pi by running too many things at once, so try running all your programs before worrying about needing more processing power or multiple Pis.
  13. Q: Why is transferring things over the LAN/internet so slow? A: If you have a Pi 4 with SSD, please check this post on the Pi forums. Otherwise it's a networking problem and/or disk & filesystem problem, please go to HomeNetworking or LinuxQuestions.
  14. Q: I only have one outlet and I need to plug in several devices, what do I do? A: They make things called power strips aka multi-tap extensions.
  15. Q: The red and green LEDs are on/off/blinking but it doesn't work, can someone help me? A: Start here
  16. Q: I'm trying to run x86 software on my Raspberry Pi but it doesn't work, how do I fix it? A: Get an x86 computer. A Raspberry Pi is ARM based, not x86.
  17. Q: Should I add a heatsink, fan, or some kind of cooling to my Raspberry Pi? A: If you think you need one then you should add it
  18. Q: Can I use this screen that came from ____ ? A: No
  19. Q: I run my Pi headless and there's a problem with my Pi and the best way to diagnose it or fix it is to plug in a monitor & keyboard, what do I do? A: Plug in a monitor & keyboard.
  20. Q: My Pi seems to be causing interference preventing the WiFi from working A. Using USB 3 cables that are not properly shielded can cause interference and the Pi 4 can also cause interference when HDMI is used at high resolutions.
  21. Q: I'm trying to use the built-in composite video output that is available on the Pi 2/3/4 headphone jack, do I need a special cable? A. Make sure your cable is wired correctly and you are using the correct RCA plug. Composite video cables for mp3 players will not work, the common ground goes to the wrong pin. Camcorder cables will often work, but red and yellow will be swapped on the Raspberry Pi.
  22. Q: I'm running my Pi with no monitor connected, how can I use VNC? A: First, do you really need a remote GUI? Try using ssh instead. If you're sure you want to access the GUI remotely then ssh in, type vncserver -depth 24 -geometry 1920x1080 and see what port it prints such as :1, :2, etc. Now connect your client to that.
  23. Q: I want to do something that has been well documented and there are numerous tutorials showing how to do it on Linux. How can I do it on a Raspberry Pi? A: A Raspberry Pi is a full computer running Linux and doesn't use special stripped down embedded microcontroller versions of standard Linux software. Follow one of the tutorials for doing it on Linux. Also see question #1.
  24. Q: I want to do something that has been well documented and there are numerous tutorials showing how to do it with an Arduino. How can I do it on a Raspberry Pi Pico? A: Follow one of the tutorials for doing it on Arduino, a Pico can be used with the Arduino IDE.
  25. Q: I'm trying to do something with Bluetooth and it's not working, how do I fix it? A: It's well established that Bluetooth and Linux don't get along, this problem is not unique to the Raspberry Pi.
Before posting your question think about if it's really about the Raspberry Pi or not. If you were using a Raspberry Pi to display recipes, do you really think raspberry_pi is the place to ask for cooking help? There may be better places to ask your question, such as:
Asking in a forum more specific to your question will likely get better answers!

2023.03.28 01:01 UpstairsPerformer487 What to do when someone is driving and working under the influence

Hey Everyone!! I’ve come to ask for advice on a situation I have with a friend/roommate.
My roommate works as a controller at a strip club.
The other night while she was working I saw on her socials that she’d posted videos of her and the manager along with other staff drinking during opening hours.
She came home and told me the next morning about her drunk exploits at work, and my first question was “how did you get home?” To which she answered “I drove”.
I was upset for obvious reasons, but not surprised. She drinks at work frequently, and has driven home drunk at least one other time this year. Not only that, but she reported that many of the staff she was drinking with that night drove home as well.
I told her how irresponsible she had been to which she immediately told me that she’d ‘sobered up’ by the time she hopped in her car, which I don’t believe since she also said that she would’ve been too drunk to drive but she felt alright because her car has lane control. If you’re too drunk to stay in your lane without assistance, I reckon you shouldn’t be driving at all.
She clearly doesn’t feel guilty about this at all, which freaks me out because it poses such a real risk to her own safety and the safety of others. I’ve decided along with another roommate that if she ever posts drunk at work again we will call the police and let them know the situation and her location.
The problem with this is that now that a) now that I’ve made my disapproval clear she’s just going to be more discreet about it and b) waiting until ‘next time’ doesn’t stop her from getting behind the wheel at putting lives at risk.
So my question is: a) is there anything I can do to report her for driving under the influence after the fact? And b) is it not illegal or at least a breach of license conditions for strip club staff to be getting legless on shift?

2023.03.28 00:58 QuillofNumenor 42 [M4F] Kentucky/Anywhere US - Fat nerdy boy seeking fat nerdy girl

Hi there. I am a 42 year old man in Louisville, KY. I am currently going through a divorce and have been separated from my ex-wife for five months. Ours is an amicable and uncontested divorce that is going to take place as soon as we move out of our home this summer. There is zero chance of any kind of reconciliation and both of us have moved on with our lives.
I’m seeking my person. The one who is right for me, whom I fulfill and am fulfilled by.
Stuff about me:
Stuff I’m looking for:
Extras:
I am hoping to meet someone within a few hours’ drive of me, but I’m willing to consider long-distance in the U.S. for the right person. I also may be able to relocate eventually after my divorce is final, and have some flexibility there. So if you see this and are far away but think we’d be a match, don’t hesitate to reach out. I really hope I find you.

2023.03.28 00:52 123space321 I hate the concept of friends sometimes

Advice welcome. Support and kinship appreciated even more though.
To be clear. I don’t have bad friends and I do not despise the friends that I do have.
But unfortunately, sometimes I hate the fact that friendship also involves independence.
When things get rough for me, I’d give up anything and everything to have someone take me by the hand and take me through it. Just to have someone take the wheel and solve all my problems for me while I can fall into a catatonic state for a month, to wake up to a better life.
But of course, that isn’t the way healthy people live their life. People are busy with their own shit.
Schedules conflict. Someone has other shit going on in their lives. They can’t drop everything for me. And I can’t drop it all on them.
It sucks.
And I know that this is how it should be. But goddamn it; does it stink.
I just wish I had that from people. Those sitcom friends who were around me 24/7. Who knew everything about me. Every last detail.
But that is not real, is it?
Why can’t it be real. I really really really desperately want that.
Cause I’m such an empty shell of a person.
So often, I don’t even feel like a real person. And having people in my life fills that void for me.

2023.03.28 00:49 Phoenix_the_Grey How I Kickstarted a TTRPG to $250k with no Kickstarter Experience – From Start to Finish

This will be a very long post with a lot of information. To make it easier to navigate, I have divided it into sections so you can easily skip to the parts you’re interested in. But to start, here’s a link to the Kickstarter I’ll be discussing: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/phoenixgrey/lewd-dungeon-adventures-a-role-playing-game-for-couples

Expectations versus Reality

Since this was my first Kickstarter ever, my expectations weren’t particularly high. I had originally set my funding goal at $500 and would have considered the Kickstarter a success if it made $10,000. I would have considered it a big success if it made $30,000.
When the Kickstarter hit $100,000, I literally cried. Never in a million years did I dream it would make it all the way to $250,000.
Because my goal was set so low, I did what everyone told me not to do. I had a lot of physical items with the Kickstarter. When the Kickstarter blew up, this later became somewhat of a regret because it complicated everything so much and added a bunch of additional expenses I hadn’t prepared for. Which brings me to my next section, and the very first thing you should do before you launch your Kickstarter.

Planning and Pricing Accordingly

There is a lot of conflicting information about whether you should price your products at a discount, at retail pricing, or above retail pricing (to accommodate for all the extra expenses that come with running a Kickstarter(and depending on what you’re offering, there can be a lot)). I had originally planned on discounting all of my tiers, but an author friend advised me not to, and boy, am I glad I didn’t.
Expenses you need to take into consideration besides manufacturing: Kickstarter fees, Backerkit fees (if you decide to use them), Marketing agency fees (if you decide to use them), shipping fees for physical products (I’m talking about actual postage, not just packaging), customs/VAT (if you plan to pay it), warehouse fees (if you plan to use one).
The first three on the list are fees that companies don’t have to pay once the product goes to retail, which is typically why you see the price of a Kickstarted project being more than what it will be when it hits retail.
I consider myself pretty business-savvy and thought I had everything figured out before I launched. I did not. Lol I never anticipated that I would need a warehouse. Nor did I account for the shipping costs of having physical products shipped to me (paperbacks to sign, candles to label) or shipping them to the warehouse, which was a lot. By the end of everything, I incurred an extra $12,700 in unanticipated expenses. My boyfriend calls it ‘the learning tax,’ but it was damned expensive. This is all to say that you should go over your numbers, then go over them again, then probably do it a third time before you launch.
If you plan to use a marketing company…or even do marketing yourself, it’s important to know what your ROAS (Return on Ad Spend) will be so that you don’t sink all your profits into ads. Here’s a great article on calculating that number: https://help.backerkit.com/article/608-guide-to-setting-your-target-roas The basic equation is Average pledge divided by Margin per pledge = Break even ROAS.
Another big mistake I made was that I only had Stretch Goals planned up to $150k, which I had already thought was a pipe dream. I had them all the way up to $150k despite thinking I’d only make $30k max because I had seen other TTRPGs make around $100k, and I thought it was better to plan for more than for less. Everything you see on my Kickstarter page past $150k is Stretch Goals that were created as I went.
For most of my planning, I looked at Kickstarters similar to mine and tried to copy what they were doing. As the saying goes, there’s no need to reinvent the wheel. But I also knew that a lot goes into a Kickstarter beforehand. To learn about that, I bought the book Get Your Book Selling on Kickstarter by Russell P. Nohelty and Monica Leonelle because it was recommended to me by an author friend. I did most of the stuff in the book but not everything, even though I wasn’t Kickstarting a book. I feel like the marketing stuff for Kickstarters is pretty much the same no matter what you’re trying to Kickstart.
This next tip is going to be specific to TTRPGs and really doesn’t belong anywhere else in this post, so I’m leaving it here. If you are creating your own TTRPG system and can offer up a Kickstarter-exclusive conversion to another popular system, like Dungeons & Dragons Fifth Edition, do it. I leveraged this to the tune of about $100k in sales that I probably wouldn’t have made if I hadn’t done it. Doing this is kind of like creating an insurance policy for your Kickstarter.
Things I did this time: Priced at retail.
Things I’m doing differently next time: Pricing above retail. Why? Because I have an incredibly low-cost product, and even by increasing my prices, with all of the Stretch Goal and Early Bird reward stuff I’m offering, people who pledge are still getting way below the retail price for all of it combined. Plus, it helps to offset Kickstarter, Backerkit, Marketing, and any unplanned fees.
One of the biggest reasons why Kickstarter creators run out of funds and can’t deliver their products is because they don’t financially plan correctly. This is a lot easier to do than you would think.

Building Social Media and a Mailing List

Whether you’re a fan of social media or not, it’s here to stay, and you will need it to run a successful Kickstarter. Lewd Dungeon Adventures had zero social media presence when I started all this. Ideally, you’ll want to start working on building social media for your product before you even go into Pre-Launch. I started maybe a week before Pre-Launch.
I created a Facebook Page and ran ads to build it quickly. To get followers to Twitter and Instagram, I created a giveaway that I posted primarily on Facebook that used people following the other two social media platforms as an entry into the contest. The prize was my highest tier on Kickstarter. I used the paid version of Gleam.io for this, and it did work decently. Much better than my original approach.
According to online research, the cheapest and fastest way to get Instagram followers is to follow people similar to your Instagram page. The theory is that a certain percentage will follow you back. Don’t do this. It’s a complete waste of time.
The Gleam contest also had a link to my mailing list to encourage sign-ups. But I mostly built that list through Facebook ads because it was much quicker and more effective. To build my mailing list, I gave away a playtest bare-bones no-color PDF copy of the Core Rulebook & Starter Adventure for my game in exchange for people signing up. In the book industry, this is a pretty tried and true method, and it didn’t fail me this time either. I believe that I had around 1,000 people subscribed to my mailing list by the time I launched.

Preparing for Pre-Launch

For the sake of brevity, I’m not going to go into all the nuances of using Kickstarter itself. But at the very basics, before you can pre-launch, you will need an image to represent your Kickstarter, ad copy (Your Story or sales pitch), and some tiers. You should also have a video trailer and an idea of whether or not you’re going to do Early Bird Rewards and have Add-Ons.
I did have the two covers for the two campaign books I was offering in my Kickstarter designed before I pre-launched, but those were literally the only art pieces I had. The entire reason I was Kickstarting the game was because hiring artists is expensive.
I decided to use the cover of The Core Rulebook & Starter Adventure as the main image for the Kickstarter. When you go on Kickstarter, you will see tons of main images with text, but Kickstarter advises against this because it doesn’t look good as a thumbnail. Using just an image was something that I was admittedly a bit nervous about, but I also knew that this was pretty standard practice with Facebook ads. Not long ago, they penalized ads that had text in them. I figured there were probably statistics backing up the success of non-text images, so I went with it.
Good cinematic video trailers are typically very expensive to have made. That’s part of why you see so many people just posting videos where they talk about their product. The other appeal is that it helps to connect the creator with the product, which builds consumer trust through feelings of familiarity, as if they are somehow connected with the creator on a deeper level. This is pretty solid marketing, so if you want to take this approach, by all means, do it. It works.
I actually hate being on camera, and I also didn’t want to spend the money to hire someone to make the video trailer for my game, so I learned how to make it myself. This was incredibly time-consuming. I spent close to a week making the trailer, and it still cost around $100 for the program I used and the assets. But I actually enjoy doing this kind of work, so it was worth the savings to me.
For my story (ad copy), I copied the format of several popular Kickstarters in my genre, leaving out what wasn’t relevant to my particular campaign. The first section always talks about what the product is and how it came to be. Telling that story helps to get people emotionally attached to your product. This section of your Kickstarter page should be honest and uniquely you and your product.
Though Get Your Book Selling on Kickstarter had a section about Early Bird Rewards, at the time I was planning my Pre-Launch for Lewd Dungeon Adventures, I had only seen one Kickstarter that was offering Early Bird Rewards, and it was not difficult to figure out why. It is damn hard to come up with a lot of freebies to give away, especially as many as Get Your Book Selling on Kickstarter suggests.
The whole point of doing this is mainly to get people to pledge early so that you get better placement on Kickstarter’s front page. Giving away free stuff also adds more value to your Kickstarter, which, theoretically, should make more people want to pledge. I do think this works, and I do plan to do it for every Kickstarter.
I wracked my brain trying to come up with Early Bird rewards, and even came up with a few that I was pretty sure most TTRPG players would not care about, like a collection of romance books. Admittedly, I am not planning to have as many Early Bird rewards this next time around, mostly because I really want to keep them relevant to my game.
For tiers, I looked at the top three TTRPGs on Kickstarter to see what they were offering, and then I modeled my own tiers around theirs. I strategically placed the 5e conversion of my game on a higher tier. My main goal was to sell my own system, so if people wanted the 5e version, they would have to buy the original version as well. This worked really well, and it is how I will be running future Kickstarters.
As mentioned in the previous section, I had Stretch Goals planned all the way to $150k. Honestly, I did a HORRIBLE job planning Stretch Goals. Without having fully created the product before launching, I assumed it would have X amount of art, so that’s what I promised with my Stretch Goals. When I actually created the finished product from playtester feedback, that number changed, so I did not deliver on all of my Stretch Goals and ended up making up for it by creating a compendium and sending that to all backers instead. This is all to say that if you’re going to offer something as a Stretch Goal, it’s best to know that you’ll be able to deliver what you say you will. Luckily, none of my backers were upset, but depending on your audience, that might not always be the case. Plan better than I did.
One thing I don’t regret doing was not revealing all of my Stretch Goals at once. The next Stretch Goal was only revealed after the previous one had been reached. This allowed me to modify things on the fly as necessary. It also hid from backers where the bar of funding was truly set. Had I only planned Stretch Goals to $30k and revealed that many right away, I might have seen backer decline after the final Stretch Goal was reached, as there would be nothing else to get excited about.
And finally, I wanted to discuss artwork for your Kickstarter. As mentioned above, I only had two pieces of artwork pre-designed for the Kickstarter. Everything else was screenshots from the interior pages of the game, things I’d made in Photoshop, or stock photos. If I’m being completely honest, aesthetically, my Kickstarter was ugly. You don’t need a pretty Kickstarter to make a lot of money; you just need a good product.

What I Did During Pre-launch

My Pre-Launch was a month long, and I mainly spent it building my mailing list and social media accounts. My Gleam contest also had an entry option for people to click Notify Me on Launch on my Pre-Launch page. Honestly, that’s probably where the vast majority of my Pre-Launch people came from. Aside from doing that, I went through Facebook and made a list of Kickstarter and TTRPG groups that allowed posting of Kickstarter Pre-Launch pages. I found 30 groups in total and posted ad copy with my link to 1 group a day. By the time I launched, I had about 180 Pre-Launch sign-ups, which isn’t great but not the worst either.
I read on a Kickstarter marketing website that having around 10,000 Pre-Launch sign-ups before you launch is best. Even for my upcoming Kickstarter, I currently only have about 800 sign-ups. If I’m lucky, I’ll have 1,000 by the time I launch.
The theory is that a certain percentage of your sign-ups will convert to backers on day 1 of launch, and you want a lot of backers right out of the gate so that your campaign will appear higher in the Kickstarter rankings. From my own experience, I don’t think you need a ton of Pre-Launch sign-ups to have a successful Kickstarter. Do they help? I’m sure they do, but I would not postpone my launch if I didn’t reach some magical target number.
Also, during this time, I worked on all of the emails and social media posts I would send out for hitting Stretch Goals and warning people that Early Bird rewards were about to expire. There was a lot. It took almost an entire day to write the majority of them. Some of them, I wrote on the fly. Still, having all of these written up in advance is a good idea so that it isn’t an added stressor after you launch.
The last big thing I did during pre-launch, which I firmly believe got me to $250k, was looking for a marketing partner, which I will discuss in the next section.
Things I did this time: Ran a Gleam contest to get Pre-Launch sign-ups.
Things I’m doing differently next time: Running Facebook ads directly to my Kickstarter pre-launch page.

Finding and Working With a Marketing Partner

If you look at the very bottom of the page of a Kickstarter that is making bank, you will often see a banner that says Promoted by ‘Insert Advertising Company Name Here.’ These companies have typically compiled massive mailing lists of backers for various projects and have marketing teams specializing in Facebook, Instagram, and Google Ads.
As I’m writing this, the two biggest players in the game are Jellop and Backerkit, with Backerkit being the best. Yes, I said it. Backerkit is the best. Why? Because you don’t have to pay any advertising fees upfront. They won’t ask for that money until after your Kickstarter has ended and you have the funds. They also charge less than Jellop, 15% of the money they bring in as compared to a fluctuating 15%+ charged by Jellop.
Neither of these companies are big risk-takers. They typically do not take on a Kickstarter project unless they believe it has the potential to earn 6-figures. Backerkit is even pickier than Jellop.
Backerkit rejected my campaign when I submitted it. I honestly didn’t expect Jellop to accept, either. While I was a mid-tier author in 2 genres, I had never created a Kickstarter before. But Jellop said yes, and that was the first time I realized that reality would likely exceed my expectations of what my Kickstarter could fund for.
As I mentioned above, the problem with working with Jellop is that I had to come up with the funds to market my Kickstarter during launch…and they don’t play with small money. On day 1, you are expected to spend $400. That is the baseline, so you need to be able to maintain that spend for a few days until they can figure out if it’s worth putting more money into it or pulling back.
The great thing about both of these companies is that they meticulously watch your ROAS (Return on Ad Spend) and will adjust accordingly. They will also tell you how to optimize your Kickstarter pre-launch. I am currently working with Backerkit on the next Kickstarter. Yes, I switched teams for this one because I wanted the unlimited marketing budget. With that said, I will tell you what they made me change about my pre-launches so far.
Jellop: Made me change my launch date. I had scheduled for a Tuesday thanks to the advice in Get Your Book Selling on Kickstarter saying that was the best day to launch. The problem is, that’s when all the biggies launch, so the competition is fierce. They said launching on a day when fewer people were launching was better, so they had me change my launch date from a Tuesday to a Friday. They also made me change my funding goal from $500 to $5,000. Let’s be honest, there was no way I could buy all the art I needed for $500…or pay for any of the other expenses to actually produce the product. I had planned to pay for that out of pocket if I didn’t reach my funding goal. But their reasoning was that setting my funding goal to $500 made the project look cheap. People don’t see a quality product when you set your funding goal that low.
Backerkit: On my current campaign, Backerkit asked me to raise my prices. Why? Because they want to maximize the amount of money we’ll both make. People who launch TTRPG Kickstarters typically charge way more than what I did for my last Kickstater. And to be completely honest, I gave waaay too much away for free last time. By raising my prices, both Backerkit and I will make more money, and backers will still be getting a better value than if they just bought the retail version of the product. Everyone still wins. They also asked me to change my launch date…from a Friday to a Tuesday. LOL Honestly, this Kickstarter hasn’t launched yet, so I have no idea what that will do, but I’m nervous about it. Backerkit specializes in TTRPGs, though, and they have a much bigger mailing list for them than Jellop, so I’m just going to go with it and see what happens.
Both companies require you to sign contracts and upload digital assets (images for them to use for their ads). Backerkit seemed to want these to be ready-made for them. Jellop took my game covers and made a few of their own. To be honest, the stuff I uploaded to Jellop wasn’t that great, but they did the best they could with what they had to work with. Both companies will give you your very own marketing rep.
My relationship with Backerkit Marketing has just started, but they’ve been great to work with so far. I don’t want to focus on them much because this post is supposed to be about my last Kickstarter, so for the rest of this section, I will focus exclusively on my partnership with Jellop.
Jellop gave me a marketing team and put me in a private chat with them. I was given a live dashboard to watch my stats as the Kickstarter was live. The team was very nice and professional during pre-launch. As soon as I launched, it literally became all about how much money I was willing to spend. Our relationship turned very impersonal, and I quickly realized it was all about the money and numbers. This wasn’t necessarily a bad thing, but it was a bit stressful as they pressured me to keep spending more because they saw the Kickstarter’s potential. Honestly, if I wasn’t limited to the 3 credit cards I was spending on, I could have made more than $250k, but I legit maxed out all 3 credit cards for a total ad spend of $35,000.
In the Jellop dashboard, there is a place to input your credit cards—a primary and a backup. I had thought that this was just for initial set-up and that I would talk to my marketing representative if I needed to update these later on in the process. I had a large expense coming to the main credit card I was using. When I told my marketing rep to update my credit card in their system, she said she would and never did. This got me into financial trouble as I ended up maxing out the credit card, which put a halt on my ads. They did not ever apologize for this, even though I got pretty pissed off about it. It was not until later that I learned it was up to me to update my credit cards in their system for whatever I wanted them to spend on. This was never told to me, by the way, I had to figure it out on my own. Ultimately, it was a big miscommunication, but it was handled very coldly and left a bad taste in my mouth.
The only other thing I disliked about working with them was the constant pressure to up my ad spend despite the strain on my personal finances. They tried to convince me to apply for more financing or take out a loan. And let me tell you, before I got paid from Kickstarter, I was very poor from how much money I had poured into advertising.
I am also somewhat convinced that they take credit for sales they did not generate, as the amount credited to them in their dashboard overlapped with what was generated by Kickstarter, but with the vast amount of money the Kickstarter generated because of their efforts, if they were skimming, it wasn’t enough that I particularly cared.
And I do know that they’re responsible for the vast majority of the success I saw. I know this because I cut ads with them for a few days to try running my own Facebook ads. I will preface this by saying that I have 8 years of experience successfully running Facebook ads for books, so I wasn’t going into it a novice. But no matter what I tried, even up to using the same ad copy and images they had used, I could not replicate their results, so I handed the reigns back to them and don’t regret it.
Though there were a few hiccups and misunderstandings, I absolutely would work with them again if Backerkit Marketing had not accepted my campaign this time around.
Things I did this time: Used Jellop as my marketing partner.
Things I’m doing differently next time: Using Backerkit as my marketing partner.

What I Did During Launch

Launch time was mainly spent blasting social media, mailing out to my mailing list, and responding to comments on the Kickstarter and Facebook ads. Jellop gave me links to all the Facebook ads they ran so that I could respond to comments. Being on top of customer support is crucial during your launch because responding quickly to all inquiries builds backer trust.
I also went through the list of Facebook groups I’d made during pre-launch and posted to one a day throughout the launch to let them know my Kickstarter had launched.
My one regret is that I didn’t post more Updates. Honestly, I still wasn’t sure how the Update system worked then, and I looked at it as just a way to spam people who had just backed the Kickstarter. I personally HATE being spammed, so I did not post Updates about Stretch Goals reached or anything beyond what I deemed absolutely necessary. I have come to realize that during launch, Updates should be used as a hype tool, so I will be posting more Updates this time around.

After Launch - Manufacturing

When the Kickstarter reached about $100k, I realized I had made several mistakes in my offerings. One was that I offered a set of 4 candles…which I would have to label myself. Another was offering signed paperbacks.
My original plan was to have everything shipped to my house, put the packages all together, then load them up in my car and take them to the post office. This was when I was expecting to make $30k max. Surely, I wouldn’t have more than 50 packages to physically ship myself…… yeahhhh. By the time the Kickstarter was over, I had 1,600+ orders that included physical items beyond just the unsigned books. There was no way I, as one person, could do it all myself.
But before we get into the logistics of warehousing and shipping, let’s get into manufacturing, because this project had a lot of different physical products from a lot of different places. I’m only going to list the items I had issues with.
Art – The main reason I Kickstarted Lewd Dungeon Adventures in the first place was that I could not afford all the art I wanted to go into it. During the Kickstarter, I offered 2 additional bonus campaigns as Stretch Goals. This was 2 extra installments of the game that both needed art. It was not long before I realized that my one artist would not be able to illustrate the entire thing and get it done before the projected deadline. I ended up hiring 8 more artists to work on the project. I hired them from a variety of places, from 99 Designs to DeviantArt, to Fiverr, to artists recommended by author friends, and even artists I’d worked with in the past. Two of them, I am not using again because of lack of communication and turning in art late. One of them submitted plagiarized work that ended up getting caught by a fan after the final product was delivered…which was mortifying and a complete nightmare. But for the most part, my artists delivered their work before the deadline, which helped get the product delivered to customers early.
Dice Tray – The dice tray for my game was manufactured by someone on Etsy. The prototype actually had an error when she sent it to me, but her customer service was so good that I decided to still move forward with using her for the Kickstarter, and I don’t regret it. This angel seriously stored those dice trays for me for about 6 months and still was gracious enough to offer me a discount and free shipping.
Candles – I decided to offer a set of 4 votive candles with the game’s logo on them. These were actually relevant to one of the campaigns in the Kickstarter. I ordered the candles from Michaels and tried a few different companies for the logo stickers. I ended up sticking the logos on the candles by hand…and there were about 1,000 of them to do, which took me two days of labor plus having my mom over to help. I would never do it again and do not recommend it.
Signed Books – I also had about 1,000 books to hand-sign. I will NEVER offer signed books again unless I put a limit on the quantity.

After Launch – Shipping and Warehousing

Once I realized I would have more physical products to ship than I could handle myself, I started looking for shipping solutions. Enter EasyShip.
EasyShip is one of the biggest name shipping companies for Kickstarters. They reached out to me directly, and after doing some research, I accepted a contract with them. I was then assigned my own shipping representative. They hooked me up with the warehouse I would be working with, UFreight, and we started coordinating everything.
I do not know if my shipping representative was new or just…not great at his job, and I’m not going to be a dick and name him outright, but he dropped the ball more times than I find acceptable, which made for a pretty frustrating experience, if I’m being honest.
For instance, when I was uploading order information to their platform, all of my orders errored out due to the form missing a field. His solution was for me to enter the missing information on 1,600+ individual orders manually. And I was like… there’s got to be an easier way than this, talk to your tech department. And there was.
Other not so great experiences included being told that the couriers would just bill my account the difference if the weights of packages weren’t right…and having most of my orders returned because of it, which led to a pretty good chunk of fees from the warehouse from needing to have the orders re-shipped. And not knowing that a certain courier would only accept a minimum amount of packages, which I didn’t meet their requirements, so these packages just sat at the warehouse, and I knew nothing about it until a customer reached out to inquire about where their order was.
Would I use EasyShip again? I’m not going to say no, but I 100% won’t say yes until I’ve explored other options first. I am actually taking a break this next Kickstarter from needing to use a shipping company, but when I do have physical products to ship, I will be using a different company. My experience with EasyShip was just too needlessly frustrating to want to continue a business partnership with them.
UFreight, however, was great to work with. My rep there was always on the ball and kept me informed every step of the way. I would highly recommend them as a warehouse partner.

Other Important Things

If you are going to have add-ons for your Kickstarter, I highly recommend using Backerkit for your backer surveys. Setting it up is a bit of a pain, but it makes it really easy to organize and deliver things to who they need to go to. Plus, they will do a lot of customer support for you, leaving you to focus on other things.
With that said, not everyone will fill out their backer survey. It’s frustrating and even a bit perplexing. I have people that pledged to my highest tier but still haven’t filled out their survey, and I delivered the Kickstarter to everyone else in February. It happens, and you can either make a choice to refund people or just wait until, hopefully, one day, they’ll claim their pledge.
Some backers will also try to update their mailing address after their pledge has shipped. As a creator, know that as soon as a package leaves your residence/warehouse and is with a courier, it is no longer your responsibility to ensure it gets where it’s supposed to go. In most cases, the best thing you can do is either give the backer the courier’s information so that they can try to intercept the package or suggest mail forwarding, if they have just moved. Thankfully, most backers are understanding of all of this.

In Conclusion

I know this was a lot. If you have any questions, feel free to post them in the comments, and I will answer them as best I can.
And for anyone curious about following my next Kickstarter, you can find it here: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/phoenixgrey/price-of-the-dragon-a-role-playing-game-for-couples Honestly, I’m not really sure how well it will do, but we’re expecting 6-figures.
I hope this helps someone out there that’s trying to get started. Running your first Kickstarter is intimidating and a bit scary, and you probably will make a few mistakes your first time around – Lord knows, I did – but it’s definitely worth it if you’re willing to put the time and effort in.

2023.03.28 00:49 DasAutoGro My girlfriend (24F) enjoys life more without me (24M) Why are we still together?

My girlfriend and I are high school sweethearts. We've been dating for 6 years and recently bought a home together which we have yet to move into. We went to the same university together. During our time there we planned our schedules around each other so we never had a chance to meet other people. We've always been each others only friends up until recently.
I work long hours, from 9 am to 7pm Mon-Sat. I only have Sundays off. I have a small business with no employees yet. I'm alone 100% of the time I'm not with a customer. She works 3 days a week and is off 4. She has a lot more free time than I do. The only free time I have is always spent with her, which are Sundays and the occasional weekday evening. I always beg her to come visit me at work so we can eat lunch together but she's always busy.
She has hobbies that I'm completely excluded from so we never do anything fun when we're together. I wear my best clothes on Sundays and always want to do something fun together. She always wears leggings and just wants to eat fast food and have sex. I told her it depresses me spending my only day off being in a hotel until dark but she takes it the wrong way and thinks I'm no longer sexually attracted to her. I just want to eat at a nice restaurant, go to a museum, or do anything new.
The most we've done together is go to a Zoo once and the movies and she always looks so bored.
As for her hobbies, she likes going to concerts and club-like shows. She's always gone with her sister. During our first 3 years of dating, whenever her sister couldn't go with her, she'd go by herself. I always asked her why and she said she didn't know, it never occurred to her that it would be something I would go to. It wasn't until months of discussion of this that she finally decided to invite me to one of them (mainly because her sister didn't want to go). When we went, I saw her as a completely different person. She dressed up in her nicest clothes, wore her best make up, and was happier than I've ever seen her in my life. I was so happy to finally see her this way but it made me feel so bad in the inside. We've been dating for 6 years and I feel like I had never seen the real her until then. I feel like she had never been her true self around me until then.
She's been going to these shows since middle school. She's gone up to 4 times a month. She started inviting me recently to a lot of them. I thought it was because she wanted me to be a part of this side of her life but now it feels like she's inviting me because she feels like she has to "otherwise I get upset if she doesn't invite me". She's never super eager to invite me to them unless it's a super long drive or her sister doesn't want to go. Whenever I have gone it always feels like I'm third wheeling and just there to keep them safe and buy her drinks. Her sister is always in a bad mood too.
What made me feel bad recently is that she went to one of them with a coworker she's known for a couple of months. She told me she and her sister had so much fun and how they all got along so well.
It just makes me sad that I feel like a side character in her life. Her passions, hobbies, tastes, etc. have always been kept from me and reserved for other people and other times while I've been a completely open book to her and have made myself vulnerable. It feels like I'm dating a portion of a person and it makes me feel so lonely. I've been thinking maybe I just need friends but she always asks why I would need friends when I have her.
What do you guys think I should do? I tell her all the time how lonely I feel sometimes but she never wants to talk about it and I have no one else to talk to.

2023.03.28 00:45 roythealien_ May have scratched someone’s car but really unsure as I didn’t feel or hear anything.

Not sure if I already posted on this subreddit, but I’m still stressed. Think i may have scratched someone’s car but had no idea as I didn’t feel or hear anything.
I was driving home and there were cars parked on my side and a car coming the opposite way, I pull in to give way to the car and as the car passes I go to drive, but in front of me there was 2 massive pot holes so I turned the wheel quite sharply to get out the way. Didn’t think anything of it at all, as you would🤷🏻‍♀️, anyways I get home park up everything’s good. Maybe about 10 minutes later a car comes driving slowly through my street and pulls around. Gets out the car with a flashlight walking up and down the houses and gets to my car and to me it looked as if his flashlight was on my car (stood right behind it). My first thought is obviously- why is this guy stood behind my car? So he stays outside for a good while (not just next to my car) but walking close to other houses by me? Doesn’t knock on the door or anything (I’m parked on a drive so it’s obvious what my house is) I’m not sure if it was because it’s was 10:30 at night the person didn’t knock but I’m not sure? Anyways. After he leaves I go outside and there are a good few scratches on my car by the back end (by the right back wheel) but my cars quite old so to me they could’ve been there for ages I’m not 100% sure. But if I have scratched that car, that’s most likely where they’ll be? I’m just really scared because I’m a new driver and honestly don’t know if I’d scratched the car or not..
