So i live in a homeless hostile for young people 16-25, it is one of the nicest hostiles in the UK.
We had a worker called Daniel, he was the only man, black guy, down with the kids, was very good at wording things and overall my favourite worker, very real person. He didnt have the qualifications to work this job but was contracted to fill the void while they found someone. He had to leave yesterday and was very sad about it.
Today his replacement comes in, dude looks exactly the same, black, same hair, same height, similar style and personality, just extremely awkward and general vibes seemed off.
They knew we all loved Daniel and didnt want him to leave, so i guess they thought getting his long lost twin with a few screws loose would go unnoticed. Its not even a legal reason Daniel couldnt stay, the manager is just picky with qualifications.
I can tell within moments of meeting this guy, that he will not be able to compete with the standards of Daniel. Daniel didnt need a qualification, his skills came from life experience which i think is far better.
I wouldnt even be mad if they just chose someone who better fit the role, its just obvious to me that they knew we liked Daniel so swapped him with pretty much the same type of person, just someone who has a piece of paper saying he is qualified.
Imagine you have a bottle of branded coke, someone slaps it off the table and says, here is the off brand version called "CoLa" It looks the same, has similar ingredients, and tastes similar and you argue that you prefer your original Coke as you grew up with it and got to love it. They look you deep in the eyes and tell you, its pretty much the same, just this one has a sticker on it saying its finest quality so it must be better.
You may learn to enjoy the off brand version, but it just isnt the original.

Film: Night of the Living Dead (1968)
Synopsis
Night of the Living Dead is an independent film directed by George A. Romero that follows a wayward protagonist, Ben, and 6 others who are trapped in a rural Pennsylvania farmhouse. Their shelter is attacked by “living dead” ghouls, making Night the landmark zombie film of its generation. Among Night’s many contributions are that the zombies a) resemble “regular people,” b) possess memory and rudimentary intelligence, c) could be de-animated only by destroying the brain, and d) are cannibals.
Relating Night of the Living Dead to Desperate Measures (Episode 62, June 12, 2017)
“Folklore and medicine often go hand in hand. In fact, for a long time they were the very same thing. But folklore has a way of leading people to tragic actions—all in the name of getting better.” (http://www.lorepodcast.com/episodes/62).
A major theme of this Lore episode is the merging of religion and folklore; specifically, the merging of Christianity and Germanic folklore in the creation of pow wow which was practiced by the Pennsylvania Dutch (Deutsch). Ironically, the margining of Christianity and African animism in Haiti formed voodoo. While voodoo inspired Richard Matheson to create the American zombie, George A. Romero “ripped off” (his own words) Matheson when creating his zombie franchise set in Pennsylvania Dutch country.

How it relates to the field of psychiatry

Night of the Living Dead is renowned for relegating the zombie horde to a backdrop of the human condition, thus allowing the viewer to focus on human motivation during a time of crisis. In his 1943 manuscript, “A Theory of Human Motivation,” Maslow posited a hierarchy of human needs based on two groupings: deficiency needs and growth needs. Night of the Living Dead serves to review Maslow’s deficiency needs; specifically, those of physiological, safety, belongingness, and esteem.
Within the deficiency needs, each lower need must be met before moving to the next higher level. This principle is tested with the introduction of Mr. Harry Cooper and Tom, as the group dynamic displaces the zombie as the primary threat. Harry represents the need for safety/shelter, as he is adamant that the cellar is the most secure area of the home. His point of view is opposed by Ben who counters that the upstairs is the most important area to protect because of its resources (e.g. the physiological need for food). Their conflict of prioritizing their deficiency needs replaces the zombies as the primary threat. Ben’s assertion is loyal to the Maslowian pyramid, as Harry puts safety needs ahead of the biological. Their conflict reaches a pinnacle when Harry grabs Ben’s rifle and threatens to shoot him. Ben wrestles the gun away when it fires, mortally wounding Harry who (ironically) stumbles into the cellar and dies.

I co-signed an auto-loan with my mom but would like to start making the payments since I have my own income now. The loan is from my credit union but she is sending checks to them every month. Is there a process I have to go through to make the payments myself, do I just call my credit union to see if they can set up an automatic deduction from my checking, do I start sending the checks and tell my mom to stop? My credit union told me to call my mom's bank but her bank said she needed to call and couldn't give me an answer. The bank and the 1(800) number is only open on the weekdays and my mom says taking days/time off work to deal with them is her last option so I'm trying to see if there are other ways.

Hello! I'm having some issues with corners on these calibration cubes coming out looking very wrong. I have a Creality Ender 3 S1, printing PLA at 200 nozzle and 60 on the bed.

So I just received payment via PayPal after publishing work for an organization (I’m freelance). The payment is currently under a PayPal hold which is frustrating because I’ve already had to wait 30 days to get paid from this organization in the first place.
I’ve added a shipping label 2 days ago and read that the org would have to confirm something? I reached out to them but they haven’t received anything.
I’m not able to afford to wait another 21 days for pay. I have bills to pay.

October 12 Movie: Final Destination (2000)
Synopsis
On this date, October 12, 1997, John Denver was killed when his plane crashed into Monterey Bay near Pacific Grove, California. Final Destination (2000) is the first installment in the Final Destination series, a franchise of horror films involving premonitions. Unlike other horror movies, the franchise is iconic for portraying Death as the major antagonist. Specifically, the movies build on the concept that “cheating” Death is impermissible and thus, death is unavoidable.
The film chronicles the events that unfold after Alex Browning, a high school senior, and his classmates board a plane to Paris for a school trip. Shortly before departure, Alex Browning has a premonition of the plane exploding, causing him to frantically warn everyone about the flight. After being escorted off the plane by security, Alex and several of his classmates soon learn that his vision would come to life. The students’ relief of not being on the plane quickly turns to anguish as they attempt to evade Death’s final ultimatum.
How it relates to the field of psychiatry
The plot of Final Destination revolves around the concept of premonitions; a term used to describe a psychic ability to see into the future. Specifically, Alex’s vision of his plane exploding allows him and several of his peers to “cheat” Death by avoiding an untimely demise.
As an otherwise well-functioning high school senior, Alex’s premonition calls into question his ability to see into the future. Similar tropes in other movies, such as Donnie Darko, portray psychosis as a core sign of major mental illness (schizophrenia and delusional disorder). However, new onset psychosis as part of a psychiatric disorder is viewed as a diagnosis of exclusion. Therefore, one must consider a vast array of possible etiologies for Alex’s premonition.
Hallucinations that occur while falling asleep are termed “hypnagogic.” These disturbances in reality occur while one transitions from the awake to sleep state. Commonly associated with narcolepsy, hypnagogic hallucinations often occur in adolescents and are indistinguishable from reality. Other potential causes for altered reality in Alex include substance ingestion. According to the National Institute on Drug Abuse (2014), 27.2% of high school students surveyed reported use of an illicit drug. Hallucinogens, inhalants, and other illicit substances are well-documented causes for psychosis in teenagers.
Following Alex’s premonition, unusual events begin to unfold in the lives of others on the plane. The events are forewarned by ‘Rocky Mountain High’ throughout the film, reminding the survivors that John Denver died in a plane crash. Thirty-nine days after the plane explosion, a
memorial service is held for victims of the tragedy. Later that evening Alex’s friend, Tod, was found strangulated to death in his bathtub. The film depicts his death as a series of events beginning with a leaky toilet; the water on the floor causes him to trip into a clothesline ultimately leading to death by strangulation. Tod’s cause of death is ultimately ruled a suicide.
Posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) is a psychiatric condition triggered by exposure to life-threatening or horrifying personal experiences. It is characterized by persistent re-experiencing, hypervigilance, and avoidance of stimuli associated with the traumatic event. When these symptoms last longer than one month, it is diagnosed as PTSD. Acute stress disorder (ASD) is a similar diagnosis when symptoms have persisted for less than one month. PTSD carries a significant association with suicidal attempt. Perhaps Tod truly suffered from an underlying anxiety disorder stemming from the plane explosion he witnessed. One could argue that Tod’s death was a consequence of his untreated psychiatric disorder, PTSD.
Finally, the concept of Death as a personified entity has played a role in many films (The Ring, 2002) and mythologies (The Devil and Tom Walker by Washington Irving). For Alex and several other characters in the movie, Death plays a prominent role in their daily functioning. Throughout the movie, these characters work together to outsmart Death and prevent their demise. Their constant belief in this embodiment, despite no factual evidence of its existence, relates to the psychiatric condition termed delusional disorder.
Delusional disorder is the presence of one or more delusions (fixed, false beliefs) that last for at least one month. These beliefs cannot be due to a psychotic disorder (schizophrenia), mood disorder, substance use (e.g., cocaine), or other medical conditions (e.g., infections, dementia, endocrinopathies). Alex’s fixed belief in the presence of Death is consistent with a plausible delusional disorder diagnosis.
The franchise moves forward with Final Destination 2, which picks up with Clear (the last survivor of the plane explosion) voluntarily admitted to a psychiatric hospital. Evidently the role of psychiatry in the franchise is not solely implicit after all.
