Instead, she was angry at me and him and ultimately decided to end our friendship completely. Bf and I are both seeking individual therapy because this issue seems to involve something deeper with my insecurities, but also his lack of a serious attitude towards his friendships in general.
I set some boundaries with John. I told him that when he goes out with friends, especially Mary, that he should just call me when he's completely alone so that he can give me his full attention to avoid misunderstandings, but most importantly, that he needs to watch his language around me because it feels kind of devastating to my feelings when he says something like "balancing yours and Mary's feelings" or mixing us up or claiming that he "didn't meant to become friends with her".
Realistically speaking, if John did have feelings for Mary (which is my suspicion), I don't actually think I mind because the important thing is that he's respecting my boundaries, being mindful of me, and, of course, that he doesn't physically cheat on me (I don't mind him having emotional friendships because my personal take is that it's a normal, healthy and human thing to have multiple emotional relationships/friendships in your life). But I also made it clear that in the future, we need to have a conversation to acknowledge which friends we have that we share, but that I also need my own friends (and that I will not be okay with it if he seeks one-on-one chats/hang-outs with them moving forward because it is violating my own emotional needs. If it were me, the only reason that I would hang out with one of his friends one-on-one is because we are putting something together for John).
He agreed, but said that the situation with Mary felt out of hand (in the sense that he did not want to deal with finding boundaries or feeling guilty about the shift in my relationship with her), and he felt that the boundaries that I set still felt accusatory. So he decided to stop being friends with her (which I insisted was not necessary). But then, he suddenly didn't want to tell her why and wanted me to talk to her instead.
So I did. I didn't want to say nothing because Mary and I had both had it happen that our friends started dating and then ghosted us, and I didn't want John to ghost her because it was a frustrating experience. I had a phone call with her and explained that John decided to end their friendship, and I explained the background of some of our issues and tried to make it clear that the issue was primarily that John and I were having communication problems and that for some reason, he didn't want to solve them when it came to her but instead preferred to withdraw completely.
Mary got very upset. She said that she felt like I was making her the problem in this situation(and I reiterated that this was mostly about John's communication and violating my boundaries) and that she doesn't know why I would tell her that, then she said that she doesn't want to be friends anymore, but would be open to trying again in the future. I can understand her feeling weird, but I think it's one thing to say "I still care about you, but I want some space because I don't want to feel involved" and another to say "I don't want to deal with this so we aren't friends at all until you figure this out on your own"
I'm kind of shocked. I thought that I was doing the right thing by letting her in on what's going on after all (given the change in the circumstances), but I also feel like John kind of threw me under the bus by not talking to her after all. He insisted that he didn't want to because he didn't have the emotional capacity to deal with the situation anymore and also that I'd made him promise not to (but this promise was months ago, and about me not wanting him to tell Mary that I have insecurities about her.... not about him not talking to her at all). Then again, I also feel like my friendship with Mary was actually a matter of what was emotionally convenient for her because she immediately decided not only to put distance, but to completely run away when the situation seemed emotionally inconvenient for her.
It's put a real strain on mine and John's relationship, and John kind of told me that he's worried that he's toxic because I was right and I did lose a friend as I predicted, and I wasn't sure how to respond so I just mentioned that I feel that, since we're a couple now, it isn't really fair to take actions that involve people that I also have a relationship with without trying to respect my feelings or how my own relationship with that person will be impacted when he does something with them. I don't know if this was a fair thing to say, but he decided to get in touch with his old therapist to address some of his own self-destructive emotional habits, and I'm looking for one as well because I can't cope with a lot of these changes or some of John's emotional needs on my own while minding myself + processing.
I don't think it's completely solved, but I think that we can slowly think about healing. If there are any additional insights though, they would still be much appreciated.

So just some stuff about me for reference. I am aware I'm somewhat of an identitarian on mental health. Simply choosing to engage with others based on shared mental health struggles. This isn't an exclusive thing and it would be silly to think the mentally ill are better when we're just objectively worse in functioning in neurotypical society. It's not made for us. Now that logic then can get misapplied to that society isn't made for black people, women and lgbt. This leads to the unspoken question of who society is made for reverting to the null identity that society is made for white men. That's simply not the case. Society is made for elites. Everyone kinda knows that too but they often confuse it when it comes to the culture war shit.
Now in engaging with the mentally ill an outsized percentage of the people I know are lgbt. An outsized percentage of people I know are black too but that's more due to my work (both wage work and professional) but I was also raised around a lot of black people too. I of course know a lot of neurotypical white men and women too.
When it comes to spaces I've been in it's a lot more leftist spaces but key groups with diverse viewpoints as well. Yeah a lot of leftist spaces. I break with them on many issues though like supporting the YPJ and Rojava in a proxy war, on Ukraine. Now knowing a lot of trans people also leads me to knowing a woman who detransitioned as well. I've known all sorts so I don't get ideologies spoon fed to me easily.
Still it seems that in the past couple years my associations have been criticized as being too political and inconsistent when I don't sense any inconsistency. I don't like cops because they suck so I wouldn't like capital cops. I don't like war do I wouldn't like Biden's warmongering. I am pro mental health advocacy and pro lgbt. I've been in the mental health system and know there's much overlap. I'm not criticizing them when I bring up mental health. I'm in the system.
I like a lot of what Tim Pool likes to say but I think he's fear mongering and exaggerating the threat the confused left is to the country. That's not a swipe at the left. If you're over 30 and on the left, you're left confused. That's just a fact. This political situation is confusing.
Tim Pool gets so much right on political polarization and the big picture stuff about the polarization being more pronounced the younger you are. I've said the same.

2023.03.29 08:24 mewvow Depression leading to insomnia
My bf (29M) is in severe depression. He lost his mother 7 months back. He was already in depression before for various reasons (ex : health issues, career issues, childhood trauma, manipulative father) but the death of his mom (the only person in his household who was kind to him) just broke him completely. He cannot sleep. It's been so long. We are trying to avoid sleeping medication because it will just start a vicious cycle. He has tried listening to soothing music, yoga for sleep but it simply doesn't work. He has to do a lot of house chores now given the family circumstances and honestly it feels like his body has started to break also. Right now, my main concern is his sleep. I have decided to read a story book over phone at night but I have no clue if it will work. If you have any suggestions regarding this issue, it will be tremendously helpful. P.S. please don't suggest to go for counseling because he has visited many psychologists. I felt like they didn't even understand him and when we tried to say something opposite to his/her viewpoint, they just take it to their ego. So we are not doing that.

Stage 2 is more panic, and I start to show it more. Stage 3 I start completely panicking, getting frustrated/more emotional especially if I'm right at a deadline and I need a certain grade to maintain good numbers. Stage 4 (doesn't happen very often) I'll have a breakdown of frustration and starting hitting things in anger and crying after.

And I love seeing old yearbook pictures of the schools I went to, it shows a different time, where I was younger or not even born, and what would be to come into the future where I actually attended those places.

I want to preface this by saying i know not everyone believes in the leap/wonder week thing and iโm not a firm believer either. For the previous leaps timeline didnโt really line up for us but man, as soon as leap 4 started for my son, he started a nursing strike. The coincidence is insane. Weโve gone to his pediatrician to check and according to her heโs fine. Nothing has changed in my diet or his care situation. He just straight up refused to nurse on my boobs when awake. He only nurses when super drowsy and i know feeding to sleep is frowned upon but thatโs the only way i can give him some calories right nowโฆ iโm pretty sure if this goes one heโll lose weight. He doesnโt take the bottle either. I feel like my mental health is suffering and husband is worried about me. Recently I got out of a relationship. I thought it was going to be the death of me but in reality I think it was the best thing for me. I was dating this guy for 9 months. We had an incident where I had gotten pregnant and he tried forcing me into an abortion. I said no and things were rocky. Well shortly after I miscarried and found out that I have a damaged fallopian tube and it will be harder for me to have children. My biggest fear was having issues. I told him and at first he was comforting saying he loved me and that he wasn't going to leave me and that there are options. well few months later I could feel him not loving me and at some point he had slapped me and thats where I drew the line. I called it quits and for awhile I regretted it and begged him for a second chance well he told me basically that it isn't me and that it is him. But his reasoning for not wanting to be with me is because I have fertility issues and who would want to be with someone like that? He said he couldn't love a woman like that and said him and I will never be together. He doesn't want to wake up in 5-10 years when he is ready for kids and realize his chances are low. That broke me into pieces but afterwards it made me lose all feelings for him. I found it impossible to love someone with that mindset. Well later on I started going out and meeting new people and I met my new wonderful boyfriend who takes care of me and loves me unconditionally. Well my ex now has some sort of thing on my phone. He knows private conversations. He knows my location. he knows of my new boyfriend before I even posted anything of him. I had him blocked on everything. Then all of a sudden he has unblocked and he went on my social media. Deleted post of my boyfriend and i. Then proceeded to text my boyfriend through my stuff. Calling me all sorts of horrible things. I tried to factory reset my phone. I tried even changing my number but nothing has worked. I honestly don't know what to do. I am very lost and confused.
